What is slavery?
~~~
offered by starriya
What is slavery? I have written this essay many times before, and each time, my definition changes slightly. To me, slavery is blood and breath. I cannot imagine my life without it, nor do I think I want to. There have been times when it has been hard, when perhaps, slavery has not been worth the effort I have extended to have the distinction I make in calling myself a slave. These times are difficult, and each time they come, they are harder and harder to see through. I believe the reason for that is simple. Slavery is growth of a submissive spirit. The choice to remain open, offer more and more to those who would take. Emptying yourself at the feet of a Free Person, that through the offering, you can receive.
Many, when they enter this lifestyle, in the same way as I did, think that slavery is a fun game to play when you are feeling different, that when you decide, the slavery stops. Many, like myself, find this to be true, til the point where it doesn't stop. The need grows incessant. Throbbing within you, filling you with an agony until you can once more slide to your knees in humble anguish. Only then do you feel complete. The fight goes on for a while perhaps, trying to back away from the yearning within you. One day though, you can't fight anymore, you surrender to the need, and you feel whole, for the first time, a weight of such significance lifts from your shoulders. You don't realize, but that is the first step on a never-ending journey.
Slavery is not a gift, it is a way of life. Slavery is not fun, nor easy, though at times it may seem like both. Slavery is fulfilling in it's own way, and it will take everything from you in another. When you meet that Master whom your heart just cries out to, you find what you need; a place to sacrifice, a place to submit, a place to cherish and revel in. Slavery is about learning. It is different for everyone, and always the same. It is what slaves long for. Those inner most desires that scare us and tantalize us.
