Should slaves have say in their treatment?

Well, my first reaction is a resounding "Hell no." By offering yourself to the collar, you give up the right to decide on your use, your behavior to most extent, and your expression. A slave is just that, owned property, to be done with what the Master/Mistress sees fit. And of course, on Gor, that is how it was and should have been. However, that is taking into account there were many slaves on Gor, thousands of women who were bred to the collar, and thousands of others who desired to wear one. The pretense of the planet was such that if a woman was not a slave, she knew very well she could become one with very little effort on the part of a man. The society of Gor was one of natural order completely. Everyone followed it, and those who didn't were quickly either bred out, or killed off.

The point in this is that on Earth, it is a very different society. Women are asked to be men, men are asked to be women, and everything has to be about equality, emotions and what is fair. The people raised in this atmosphere do not naturally take to the collar. Those who do are few and far between, especially those who truly understand the requirements of slavery. The men of Earth do not truly comprehend the birthright given to them. This makes them at times unable to master, and the slave at times, unwilling to submit. In a perfect world, we could become complete Goreans, but on Earth, society limits us on some things. Here, there are restrictions on the behavior we may show in public, the dress code that we follow, the unrestricted sale and murder of a man's "property" in his slave. Though these things may limit the use our Masters may place on us, they do not necessarily give us a "say" in our treatment.

As a slave, we may choose to give up the right to decide anything, and put our fates entirely in the whim of our Master's hands. We can give over to him everything, but it is always our decision to remain in the collar he puts us in. The conception of slavery as it is on Gor cannot be realized on Earth, but a slave can choose not to ask for a say in her treatment. The say she is granted is in the allowance of the Master to beg release, or beg a collar. Each of us must decide the level of submission we are willing to give, be it none, or to the point we would kill ourselves if he told us to. Obviously, most of us are somewhere in the middle.

My personal choice has been tried and tried, but I always find myself seeking the strongest level I can find, the men who will appreciate the fact I want nothing more than to serve them adoringly. It is a hard thing, to find the man who fulfills that slave within. We can seek, and push our limits, searching within ourselves until we are sure that we understand, but often, that is when the next trial presents itself. Slavery is a journey, deep and lengthy, in which there may never be an end. It is a choice we all have to make, to surrender, or hold back.

Choices?

Well, this is an interesting question because kahlan is at a time in her life where choices just confuse her. So she will say that a slave shouldn't have choices and the reason she shouldn't is because of that. She is a slave. A slaves choices should be two things...one to beg the collar and another to beg out of it. Should she use common sense while in the collar, yes, of course, for if she doesn't she ceases to be a thinking, breathing, human. But choices, real choices, should be the role of the Master in the relationship, because it's why the girl gives up her total control to begin with. There are also different levels of choices, and those that pertain to a girl's safety and health should be discussed with her by Master beforehand. And the Master and the girl should know this beforehand that there are certain choices that should be discussed. As far as the everyday choices, the things that make up the relationship, no a slave should not have choices. If she wished choices she never should have given herself over, her heart, her mind, her body and her very soul, to the one whose collar she begged.
