alcove:

ankle rack: a device used to lock a girl's ankles in wooden stockage.

bark cloth: the inner bark of the pod tree dyed scarlet and plaited and pounded into a cloth akin to burlap but softer; it has a variety of uses including a rough wrap around the hips of a slave constituting her only clothing in some instances. (Explorers of Gor, page 287)

bastinado: a punishment not otherwise described, however the earth translation is a beating, especially with a stick or cudgel. The beating may be specifically to the soles of the feet.

beads on a chain: a reference to free women chained in a coffle, it is an oblique reference to 'slaver's necklace'. Slaves on such a necklace are referred to as 'jewels', whereas a free women is merely a 'bead'. (Magicians of Gor, page 161)

binding fiber: stout twine made of strips of leather or of a fiber like hemp; a piece long enough to circle a slave girl's waist 2-3 times is often used as a belt for her slave tunic. (Tarnsman of Gor, page 64; Dancer of Gor, pages 375, 376, and 383)

binding strap: a strap 3/4 inches wide and 18 inches long commonly used for binding the wrists and/or ankles of prisoners and slaves. (Guardsman of Gor, page 237 and 274)

blanket: when a blanket or cloak or covering of any sort is thrown over a slave girl she may not speak or rise; she must remain silent until the blanket is lifted by a free person. (Explorers of Gor, page 94)

block melodies: certain melodies commonly used in slave markets in the display of merchandise. They are intended to 'set the mood' in the mind of potential buyers.

body chain: a closely meshed length of chain about 5 feet in length which can be used in a variety of ways to bedeck or secure a slave.

bondage knot: a knot, tied by a slavegirl in her hair on the right side of her face; a loose knot tied in a slave's long hair near her right cheek or before her right shoulder that has two meanings, depending on how it is used. If a slave girl approaches a Master and kneels naked before him, looping the knot herself, she silently begs for use. If a Master ties the knot himself, notably during a time of battle, it is his way of marking the girl as taken if he must continue on, leaving her bound behind. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 27 and 321; Dancer of Gor, pages 299-300)

bond maid circle: a female who enters the circle, drawn in the dirt for example, is declaring herself a bond-maid by the laws of Torvaldsland. She may enter voluntarily or be thrown into it bound and naked. (Marauders of Gor, page 44)

bond maid gruel: a porridge served to bond-maids in Torvaldsland made of dampened Sa-Tarna and raw fish. (Marauders of Gor, page 67) *

bota: a bag with a reclosable stopper or cork commonly made of verrskin leather; used to transport liquids and is often utilized by serving slave girls especially in the camps.

bound by the Master's will: refers to a slave being commanded to hold position, as though bound, hands clasping opposite wrists until she is released. (Dancer of Gor, page 227; Magicians of Gor, page 388) **

branding rack: a device to which a new slave girl is chained for branding; her hands are chained above her head but the rest of her body is free to move except for whichever thigh is to be branded this being held motionless in a large vise. (Explorers of Gor, page 71; Savages of Gor, page 121)

common gag: heavy, rolled-leather wadding thrust back behind the teeth, over the tongue of a slave, secured in place by a broad, mouth-covering strap, with three smaller straps attached to it.

couching law: any Free woman who voluntarily 'couches' with the slave of another may be taken as slave herself by the Master of the slave she 'couched' with.

double leashing: a method of slave control. Either two collars with leashes are affixed to her neck, or a collar with a leash on opposite sides is used.

dung sack: used to contain bosk (or any) dung after it has been raked up or collected; also employed as a punishment.

eleven kisses: a component of training for a pleasure slave. (Explorers of Gor, page 36)

errand capsule: a piece of scroll rolled and inserted into this; a slave carries this or it is hooked to her collar contains information about her errand.

fora: chain; pl. fori - chains; as in sa`ng-fori, 'without chains' (Outlaw of Gor, page 216)

fountain, higher bowl: drinking fountain, the portion of the public fountains from which free persons drink. There is a lower level is available for the use of animals and slaves. (Magicians of Gor, pages 216, 217, and 224-225)

fountain, lower bowl: drinking fountain, a portion of public fountains allotted for the watering of animals and slaves; slaves caught drinking from the upper bowl face punishment by the magistrates of the city. (Magicians of Gor, pages 217 and 228)

girl yoke: a narrow piece of wood with holes drilled in the middle and at each end. To secure a girl, thongs are looped through each end hole and the hole at the neck, attached to both wrists and neck. (Savages of Gor, page 281)

Gorean blindfold: consists of two rounded pieces of soft felt, three to four inches in diameter, and the binding which is several turns of a dark thick, folded cloth, tied behind the head; the rounded pieces fit over the eyes, held in place by the scarf or tie; it is not normally used in transportation, the slave hood being preferred in those instances. (Rogue of Gor, page 201)

handle tie: a girl's ankles are ties together with 12 inches between them and her wrists are bound before her with a lengthy tether; this tether is then drawn between her legs and tied about her neck forming a 'handle' that a Free Person can use to lead her.

har-ta: Gorean word meaning 'faster' or quick

Harl ring: form of slave chain which consists of an ankle ring with a welded ring in back and a chain in front. The chains terminate in a locking device which can be attached to another Harl ring around a post or to itself in order to secure a slave. This chain was developed by Harl of Turia. (Hunters of Gor, page 208)

identifying bracelets: used in lieu of a collar, described as silver, it is attached to the wrist of a slave

impalement: When one who is slave strikes a free person the penalty is not infrequently death by impalement, preceded by lengthy torture. (Assassin of Gor)

initiatory whipping: the beating usually of about 10 strokes which a slave girl receives upon being brought into a new house-hold to remind her that she is a slave and under discipline. Sometimes called the lesson of the leather. A final blow delivered at the end of the initiatory whipping is called the gratis or mnemonic blow. (Rogue of Gor, pages 129 and 130; Guardsman of Gor, pages 204 and 205)

iron belt: an instruction whereby the slave performs her regular duties upon hands and knees without the benefit of the use of her hands. In this mode she may not rise to her feet and may use only her mouth and teeth to grasp and manipulate.

iron pens: the subterranean retention facilities in a Slaver's house where slaves are kept for training and prior to sale. (Assassin of Gor, pages 117 and 273)

kajuralia: this holiday is celebrated in most northern civilized cities with the exception of Port Kar; many cities celebrate on the last day of the 12th Passage Hand but in Ar and some other cities on the last day of the 5th month the day before the Love Feast; in this day practical jokes from slaves are tolerated. (Assassin of Gor, page 229)

kneel, slave: a small room, usually 3'x3'x4', having an iron grill for a door in which a slave girl may be confined at night. (Rogue of Gor, page 117-118)

knee walk, Turian: mentioned, but not described except that it is sometimes used by slave dancers. (Magicians of Gor, page 342)

kurt: the five-bladed slave whip. (Slave Girl of Gor, page 83)

furs of love: the furs on which a slave may be used to sexually please a Master. (Raiders of Gor)

lamp of love: a lamp lit to show that a slave is being used sexually; flint and steel is used to strike sparks into a moss bowl whence by means of a Ka-la-na shaving the lamp might be lit. (Raiders of Gor)

leg spreader: devices of various complexity designed to keep a slavegirl’s legs spread while being used sexually by her Master(s); sometimes used on male captives as an indication of humiliation; used mostly among the Red Savages of the Barrens. (Savages of Gor, page 162 )

loot pit: a holding place for captured free women awaiting collars and branding during the military occupation of a city. (Magicians of Gor, page 190)

love furs: luxurious furs, perhaps of the larl, thrown to the floor by the Master when he wishes to make use of his slave girl. (Priest-Kings of Gor, page 68)

manumission: the documented, legal freeing of a slave.

Paga Tavern: an establishment where food and alcoholic beverages esp. paga are sold; in addition the use of the serving slave is included in the price of the paga bought.

Parade of Slaves: a presentation of beauty and attractions in which the slaves present themselves one by one usually accompanied by music for the inspection of the guests; commonly takes place in paga taverns and brothels but may take place elsewhere. Free women are usually not present. (Vagabonds of Gor, page 29)

plastic cage: a means of exhibiting slave girls outside a slaver's establishment suspended from the roof of the portico or in a tier of cages with a comely wench inside.

pleasure rack: a device ranging in complexity from a grid of ropes in a wooden frame to a moveable adjustable frame with chains for the display and sexual use of slave girls and captive free women. (Outlaw of Gor, page 199; Rogue of Gor, page 21)

private master: an individual free man who owns slaves chosen for the pleasure he will personally receive from owning them and being in their company.

rep-cloth: rough fabric woven from the fibers of the rep plant; analogous to cotton muslin. (Captive of Gor, page 294)

sa`ng-fori: freedom; 'without chains' (Outlaw of Gor, page 216)

sereem diamonds: a transparent mineral which is percious because of its rarity; is red with flecks of white; red, sparking, white-flecked stones of great value. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 92)

silk: term for a slave garmant that is actually made of silk; it is said that any woman who enjoys the feel of silk is truly a slave.

simple knee walk: a slave travels on knee's, without standing, to fetch items or tend to duties.

slave belly: the area of the abdomen around the navel; so called because only slave girls expose their navels. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 335; Explorers of Gor, page 334)

slave blanket: thin cotton-like blanket woven from the soft fibers of the Rep Plant to protect her from the cold. (Priest-Kings of Gor, page 67)

slave box, punishment: small square (3x3') iron box with a door having a viewing aperture of 7 inches x1/2 inches in the middle and a pass-through of 12x2 inches at the base; a punishment device for slaves. (Captive of Gor, pages 313-314)

slave box, transportation: small, iron box used for the transportation of slaves. (Fighting Slave of Gor, page 120)

slave bracelets: manacles; there are 3 links between the wrist rings; may be used for various reasons (Tarnsman of Gor)

slave cage: a small cage, just big enough for a slave girl to sit or curl up, in which she may be placed as cargo; small, stout, wooden cord-bound, thick-barred cage adequate for the confinement of bound slaves. A wooden gate, tied shut, secures it. (Fighting Slave of Gor, page 220)

slave cushion: more like a thick pillow that the slave must perform upon, more often than not found in alcoves (Tribesmen of Gor)

slave dance: any of the sensous and lascivious dances performed by slavegirls to entertain their masters; designed to display the sexual heat of the performer, and invite her use by Masters; dances include the Belt Dance, Chain Dance, Dance of the 6 Thongs, Sa-eela, Tile Dance (performed on red tiles), Tether Dance (See Dance); the dancing of a slave is a thousand times more sensuous than that of a free woman because of the incredible meanings involved the additional richness which this furnishes the explosive significance of this comprehension that she who dances is owned and theoretically could be owned by you. (Dancer of Gor, page 193) **

slave goad: an electrical device much like a cattle prod used for controlling and disciplining slaves. (Assassin of Gor, page 84)

slave heat: the intense need and passion of a slave girl. (Beasts of Gor, page 242) on IRC, this is the term for a girl's sex.

slave hobble: a chain consisting of a wrist-ring and an ankle-ring joined by 7" of chainl it is fastned on one ankle and the opposite wrist

slave leash: attached to the collar of the slave. (Assassin of Gor)

slave lips: When this command is given the slave turns her head up to the Master her lips pursed in a sensual kissing position. She remains motionless her lips thusly puckered and may not move until she is granted the kiss of a Master. (Blood Brothers of Gor, pages 111 and 404; Kajira of Gor, page 224) **

slave locker: a sort of temporary slave box available at a depot for fee carts, for example. Once the slave has entered the locker, a tarsk bit is inserted which allows for the turning and removal of the key, which the owner pockets until his return. This kind of slave locker is unattended. (Vagabonds of Gor, pages 423-424; Magicians of Gor, page 67)

slave mat: a course mat made of straw to which area a slave girl may be ordered for discipline or use, the girl may not leave the mat unless permitted by her master. (Priest-Kings of Gor, page 74)

slave orgasm: a powerful orgasm in which a slave completely yields to the Master.. after which she can never be anything but a man's slave.

slave oval: a method of chain a slave girl consisting of a hinged iron loop which locks around her waist with two sliding wrist- rings and a welded ring in the middle of the back. (Slave Girl of Gor, page 146)

slave pole: imaginary pole that 'transfixes' a dancing girl by which she is 'held' during her dance. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 11)

slave porridge: a cold unsweetened mixture of water and Sa-Tarna meal on which slaves are fed; in Torvaldsland it is called 'bond-maid gruel' and often mixed with pieces of chopped parsit fish. (Assassin of Gor, page 126; Captive of Gor, page 208; Marauders of Gor, page 56, 63 - 65; Dancer of Gor, page 66) **

slave perfume: perfumes designed to be worn by slave girls; they are heavier and more sensual than those designed for free women. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 230)

slave rape: the sexual use of a slave girl; may be either tender or bruta, casual, deliberate or disciplinary. (Tribesmen of Gor, page 34; Guardsman of Gor, page 184) **

slave ring: a heavy iron ring c. 1' in diameter to which a slave may be secured for security discipline or any other reason; often found in floors interior & exterior walls (either 1' or 3' above the ground) attached to the foot of a master's sleeping couch, etc. (Priest-Kings of Gor, page 48)

slave strap: a heavy strap or belt which buckles behind the wearer's back; in front, there is a metal plate with a welded ring, through which passes the 4 hort (5") chain of a pair of slave bracelets; designed to keep the wearer's hand before his body

slave wagon: a flat-bedded barred wagon like a large cage with a door in the rear in which many slaves may be transported at one time their ankles chained to a bar that runs down the center of the floor; tarpaulins are often used to cover the cage & hide the cargo. (Captive of Gor, page 65)

slave whistle: worn about the neck of the slave; often for a slave who trains other slaves. (Assassin of Gor)

slave wine: a black, bitter beverage that acts as a contraceptive; its effect is instantaneous and lasts for well over a month; can be counter-acted with a another sweet-tasting beverage (see: breeding wine). (Marauders of Gor, pages 23 and 83-84; Dancer of Gor, page 174) *

slave wire: a closely interwoven latticework of sharp, swaying strands, set at intervals of less than a hort. Serves as a confining fence. It's barbs and prongs could cut a slave to pieces.

Slaver's Caress: a method of touching without warning a slave girl who is being sold in order to exhibit her slave heat for potential buyers; also known as the Whip Caress as it is commonly done using a coiled whip. (Assassin of Gor, pages 294-295: Book 13: Explorers of Gor, page 40) **

stimulation cage: an ornate fairly roomy cage furnished comfortably with fabrics of all kinds furs cosmetics perfumes jewelry etc. in which a naked slave girl in training may be housed; its purpose is to awaken her senses esp. the tactile senses to everything in the world around her so that she may be more pleasing to masters; in addition it is just too short for her to stand upright so that her head is always inclined in a gesture of submission. (Tribesmen of Gor page 24)

Street of Brands: the city or area in a given city where slavers conduct their business. (Tarnsman of Gor page 132)

Street of Writhing Slave: dark narrow street not far from the wharves in Victoria where most renters and dealers in coin girls keep their kennels on this street. (Guardsman of Gor page 143)

submission mat: a mat on which a girl kneels to submit (Blood Brothers of Gor page 129)

training room: a training room for slaves, often containing a shallow pit of sand for dancing, furs, chests, cosmetics, chains, retention devices, mats, Musicians, parallel bars on the walls for excercises, love furs, sometimes even containing a one-way mirror so that the Free could observe igcognito (Assassin of Gor)

walking chain: a measured stride is considered desirable to the Men of the Tahari in reference to their women (slaves or Free); this instrument is a set of chains shackled to the ankles of slaves, helping them achieve this smooth and measured gait (Tribesmen of Gor)
