* is required for all slaves to enter most rooms on both IRC gorean channels and other systems; permission to leave also must normally be begged and granted before you may leave or go afk. It is always good to find out the rules in the place you visit.
With the internet and its occassional 'bumping' or 'disconnecting,' you may return without begging entrance if you were 'peered' or 'disconnected' IF you log back in before 10 minutes from the time of disconnection is up. It is appropriate to use the prostrate or obeisance position when entering.
This rule stands for most Gorean chats, but not all. Remember, when in doubt or when being mistaken, apologize and do not do the same mistake in that chat.

* On-line, slaves have all lowercase letters within their nicks and wear their collars normally as {XX} for female slaves and [XX] for male slaves (XX being the Owners 'mark' or initials).

* All Free Person's nicks begin with a Capitalized Letter.

* All Free Persons are to be addressed as Master *nick* or Mistress *nick*. It is NOT appropriate to use abbreviations (ie. '&' or 'n' instead of 'and', 'u' instead of 'you', or 'Mr.' instead of 'Master') or to abbreviate a Free Persons nick, or your own unless allowed to by your Owner.
It may be seen as a sign of laziness and may not be found becoming in the slave. When in doubt of the gender of the Free Person, it is best to perform a /whois, or .who, and if you still cannot tell, then you should address the Free Person as Master and beg forgiveness if it turns out to be a Mistress.

* Upon being granted entrance, it is appropriate to greet first the Masters then the Mistresses in the Channel. If the room is overly full, it is appropriate to address All at once (ex. 'greetings Masters'). Only after this should you greet any other slaves. **Likewise, it is also appropriate to wait for a slave to be granted entrance before greeting them**

* If you know how to serve, offer to serve. In most channels it is allowable to approach the Free Person before asking to serve--is better than shouting across a room, but is best to approach the edge of the Free Persons furs, ie.do NOT go directly before them.
Often if the slave needs to talk s/he should ask to approach after settling at the edge of the Free Person's furs. Likewise, in the middle of the serve the slave should not again ask to approach when bringing the desired 'what not,' as the Free Person has already, obviously, directed the slave to serve and the slave should not be seen as questioning that directive.
Asking too many questions can both deter from the serve and also peeve the Free Person you are serving.

* It is also best if you are new to beg an Op's or Free Person's permission to observe (add -obs to your nick or 'new' to your profile) after you have entered and greeted.

* It is common courtesy NOT message a Free Person without permission (exceptions are often made if you are in need of direct help from an Op and do not wish to call attention to your problem in channel--use your discretion). Also, please do not disturb another slave if s/he is serving.

* In many channels, permission is not needed to speak, but please use common manners--do NOT interupt a Free Person in conversation, do NOT yell in the channel, and be respectful at ALL times. The slave should not ask to greet unless they are told to ask for such.
Remember each city/tavern/etc is different in its customs. The slave needn't worry about speakin when in service, at that time it is up to the Free Person to allow them to speak or greet or any thing.

* The slave should not touch the Free Person's body or anything upon it without either asking to do so or being told to do so.

* If you are new to IRC gor or are refreshing and are called upon to serve, do NOT say you cannot serve, politely state that you are new or in the status of re-associating yourself with Gor but will give your very best effort. Other slaves will help you if you message them.
Most Free Persons are understanding if you tell them you are inexperienced, but are not tolerant if you try 'faking' your serve or suggesting you know more than you do.

* In On-line Gor, slaves do NOT use 'i,' 'me,' or 'mine,' it is appropriate to speak in third person: 'this one,' 'this girl,' or 'this slave.' This is general for most places one may visit. It is noted in the books that slaves were often commanded not to use 'I' as a means of instilling their status as a slave into them.

* Also understand your tone can convey meanings: whining, pouting, sulking, or arguing are NOT becoming in a slave and may result in discipline. Take a deep breath, relax, and think before you speak. Always take responsibility for your actions.

* At all times, pay attention to the channel to the channel you are visiting. There are many channels with a NO co-channeling rule for slaves. If there is entertainment being performed (ie. dance, song, or ceremony), practice common sense courtesy. Do not interupt by talking, serving, etc...
If you are in the entrance, 1) await quietly for the ceremony/entertainment to end, 2) enter quietly if a Free Person motions you to enter or 3) do a brief entrance. If you are asked to serve during such an event, be as brief as possible.
Always remember, that could be you dancing or performing and you wouldn't like your performance interupted.

* Remember, you are slave, yes, BUT you represent the collar you wear. You represent your trainer(s) and his/her ability; you represent the channel you call Home; and you, above all, represent your Owner(s), be They Master, Mistress, or Channel.
What you do reflects on your Owner and yourself, please do NOT disrespect your collar. The merest whim of your Owner is your highest law. The collar entrusted to you carries the honor of your Owner, and you alone can make it as light or as heavy as you wish it to be.

* Do NOT hesitate to ask other slaves for help. Many remember what it is like to be new. One only learns by asking questions and getting answers.

* On a final note, always be true to yourself. If you are slave, be slave, do not use other nicks/personalities, be yourself. Just because this is on-line, it doesn't mean you can be disrespectful; everyday manners are still required.
