A Brief Lesson


Always do as the Free Person commands. If the command goes against your restrictions, SAY SO! Do not lead a Free Person on; teasing is dishonorable and punishable.

Always keep position until told to break it. One way a Free Person can release you from position is by clapping His/Her hands twice.

It was late afternoon. He lay down, to sleep. I did not break position. I had not been given permission. Perhaps he kept me in position to discipline me. I did not know. I was afraid to break position. I told myself, of course, that this was rational, that he might wake and discover me out of position, or that, perhaps, at times, he was not truly asleep, but was, through half-closed eyes, watching me, to see if I, in the slightest, moved. But in my heart I knew I had not broken position because he had not given me permission to do so, because he had not released me from his command. I was terribly afraid of him. I was afraid to break position. I was obeying him. For more than two hours, I think, I knelt in position. He awakened. He looked at me, but he did not release me from position. I remained as I was, in that position so symbolic of female subjugation. {Slave Girl of Gor, Chapter 2}

One of the hardest things to do on-line is emote.. the positions MUST be SEEN! If you are trembling RL, show it on-line, describe miniscule details: clenched belly, trembling lower lip, watery gaze, a tender smile, whatever it may be. The trick is to make the Free Person FEEL your action.

Another suggestion for on-line is making sure your spoken text is seperated somehow from your action text. This makes for less possibility of missing the words.

Always remember to be descriptive! Take your time. Sometimes a 2-line post on-line has more impact than a 5-line post, especially when there is a chance the longer post may end up 'cutting off' the line. Be precise, if your typing is slow, make shorter posts and be sure to be grammatically correct. One may type fast too, but if the words are spelled incorrectly and such, it reflects upon you as being rushed and not taking the time to be more 'pleasing.'

Insolence is not becoming in a slave. For sure a Master will like a trained, competant slave, but also be aware, while in the books a slave may be haughty in her bearing and sure of her abilities, she is still subject to the whims of Free Men. There is a fine line between being seen as proud of one's abilities and being seen as being snobbish in her words. The learning never stops; in fact, this site is always in constant update as one learns.

Practice in real life, not just on-line. A suggestion is to do the positions R/L in front of a mirror to get a better feel of them.

Choose what feels right for you, but do be aware of different customs. There are, of course, variations of all positions, as found in the books. It is hard to be exactly by the book as each book is a bit more brief in detailing the position or has a little more description than another book does on a position. What one finds is the best to do, find the norms of the position as found on irc, see that it doesn't go against the books and use the position in that form (or as one's Owner wishes it done) but always be aware of different variations.

As always, never raise eyes to a Free Person, unless told otherwise. Though this is only an IRC'ism of Gor, it displays the proper respect due the Free Person. In the books, the keeping of eyes lowered is normally intended as punishment and to remind a girl of her place and status.
Normally, eye contact between a Master and a slave is acceptable and common, but it can be denied or forbidden to the slave as a punishment or discipline. {Savages of Gor, page 258}
Remember your restrictions when doing positions. It is good to learn all positions, even if one does not officially perform them. If one is commanded to do something that would signify she is something she is not (ie. pleasure slave or unrestricted), it may be best to tell the Master commanding the action of one's restrictions, but that one wishes to please and will do as commanded.

Crawling is a sign of 'need.' Slaves do not crawl unless ordered to do thus by their personal Masters or Mistresses or are intent upon showing their devotion or need to the Master they crawl before. Do not crawl about; a gorean kajira is supposed to be proud, believe it or not. The kajira should be proud of her skill and talent, her capactiy for love and devotion. Not of herself, but rather of the things she can bring to her Master, for her Master is her focus.

Use discretion in doing positions. Many of these positions are not performed unless directed to by one's Master. As always, use discretion in doing a position without command, for a slave girl should, in her training, learn to assess her Master's wants/needs/desires before He even speaks them.

Be aware of what you offer (teasing, heat, and nadu). If a kajira offers a Free Person wholly of herself, she will be required to give what is offered if the Free Person chooses to accept it.

A kajira cannot tease without intention of fulfilling the promise of the tease. To do so is not only an insult to the Free Person, but shows dishonor and a lack of intergrity within the kajira.

By kneeling nadu, a girl is telling the Master that her full sexual service is at His disposal. If you kneel in nadu, you are offering sexual service among other things to the Master, and you had better be able to fulfill that promise. Hiding behind restrictions or a collar is absolutely no excuse for you to tease or present yourself incorrectly when kneeling.

Be feminine, the gorean slave has a naturalness to her, one of sensuality, of pride.. yes pride.

I then walked as a slave, proudly, my shoulders back, grace-fully and beautifully, as a woman owned by men. As an Earth female I would never have dared to walk in such a way. Such movements are probably indexed, like physical distances be-tween individuals, to the culture. In Gorean culture, generally, it seemed to me that people stood closer to one another than I was accustomed to on Earth. In this way it was natural for men here, for example, to stand much closer to the scantily clad slave than the average man of, say, northern Europe, on Earth, would be likely to, to a woman of his area. Indeed, he usually stands so close to her that it would be easy for him to put his hands on her, and draw her to him, taking her in 'his arms. The dynamic consequences of these proximities are minimized considerably, of course, by the fact that the slave often kneels in the presence of the free male. It is customary in the kneeling position to remain back a few feet from the male. {Dancer of Gor, pg 156}
** NOTE ** Har-ta! means fast or quick. When told Har-ta by a Free Person, it means to perform quickly, whether it be a serve, position, or just a command to go to the Free Person.

Kneeling


Kneeling is a great indicator of status and space according to distance.

The kneeling position, itself, expresses the servitude of the slave, and her submission. The distance serves three major purposes. It symbolizes in the distance, as well as in the differential in height, the social inferiority of the slave to the master. It puts the slave in a position where all of her, for the master's delight, can be seen. A kneeling woman is incredibly beautiful. It also puts enough space between the slave and the free male so that the releasing of his rapacity is then likely to require a decision, and is less likely to be simply, reflexively. 'triggered'. This is regarded as being particularly important when the slave is in the presence of a male who is not her master. The kneeling position, thus, interestingly, can occasionally provide a measure of security, if a somewhat tenuous one for the slave, tending to reduce to some extent the frequency with which, in a culture with such interpersonal proximities, she might otherwise be subjected to unauthorized rape. This same tiny measure of protection, of course, puts her in much greater danger from her real master, for he, observing her, seeing her kneeling beautifully before him, can also delay in his considerations as to her suitable exploitations. How shall he use her'? What shall he have her do, and so on. To be sure, sometimes he simply takes her and when he wants her, and almost by reflexive whim. She is his. The main reason why a slave kneels, of course, aside from such subtle and complex considerations, is simply that she is a slave, and that that position, accordingly, is appropriate for her. {Dancer of Gor, pgs 156-157}
1. Kneeling a few paces back from the Free Person symbolizes in both distance and height differential the status between the Master and the slave.
2. Kneeling a few paces back from the Master puts the slave where the Master can view her fully, for a kneeling woman is an incredibly beautiful woman.
3. Kneeling a few paces back puts enough space between the Master and the slave so that the Master may not be imposed upon by a slave.
4. Kneeling a few paces back leaves ample room for one to maneuver into any commanded positions.

Hand Placement


The placement of the hands may be an indicator of the slave's status-restricted or no, etc..

Bracelets

in this, a Master can command the slave to do anything: turn, bow, kneel, slave lips, cry, display anger, etc..
"Stand!" said the merchant. "Head back! Hands behind head! Bend backwards! Farther! Farther!" He turned to us. "Acceptable," he said. Then to the girl he issued orders, rapidly, harshly. I watched with interest, as the girl, tears in her eyes, responded to his swiftly issued, abrupt commands. For more than four Ehn he put her through a swift, staccato regimen of movement, a set of slave paces, assessment paces, designed to exhibit, vulnerably, decisively and publicly, her beauty, in all of its major attitudes and positions. "Hands on hips! Be insolent! Hands behind back! Hands crossed beofre you, as though bound! Hands at throat, as though chained to collar, fingers before mouth! Fall to the floor! Kneel! Head down! The auctioneer did not strike her with his whip. He merely took her arms and lifted them, so that the position chain, attached to each side of the sales collar lay across her her upper arms. Then he had her clasp her hands behind the back of her neck, so that the chain, on each side of the collar, was in the crook of her arms, and she was exposed in such a way that she could be properly exhibited. {Explorers of Gor, page 36}

I saw her training in Gorean customs had been thorough. But she never thought that such a gesture would be used on her. For example, when a girl, serving at a banquet, hears the command, "Hair," she knows she is to go to the guest and kneel, and lower her head, that her hair may be used as a napkin or wiping cloth, by means of which the free person, either male or female, may remove stains, crumbs or grease from his hands. Similarly a girl's hair, if sufficiently long, may be used for the washing and cleaning of floors. In this she is usually on her hands and knees, and naked and chained. The hair is used in conjunction with the soap and water, in the appropriate buckets, being dipped in, and wrung out, and rinsed, and so on. {Kajira of Gor}

a display position in which a kneeling slave is braceleted and leashed and commanded to hold her head very high exposing her neck. (Mercenaries of Gor, pages 308-309)
"Lift your head, " he said. "Higher. Higher!" She looked up at him, her head far back, the leash on her throat.... "You need not now keep your head in high-harness position,", he said to the girl. She moved her head. {Mercenaries of Gor pg 308-309}

Kneel to be Coffled


when in a chain
the slave kneels as appropriate, raising either the left or the right arm wrist facing outwards, ready to accept the wrist-ring of the coffle-chain
"Kneel to be coffled," said one of the men. The girls knelt, closely, one behind the other, there were six wrist rings on the chain he carried. He placed the girl who had been whipped by Lady Sabina first in the coffle line. "Left wrist coffle," he said. They lifted their left wrists, frightened. Interestingly, the man snapping the wrist rings on the girls� left wrists did not put the first girl in the first ring, but the second. When the four maids were coffled there was, thus, an empty wrist ring both at the head and rear of the line. "Stand, Slaves," said the man. "Lower chain." The girls stood. Then, ordered, the lowered their wrists. They were then in line, standing, coffled. {Slave Girl of Gor pg 127}

Kneel to the Whip


this command orders a slave to kneel, bowing her head to her knees, her wrists crossed under her as though bound. The position is intended to expose her back to the whip.

Terrified, she, as the expression is, knelt to the whip, assuming the position of the slave girl who is to be punished, her wrists crossed beneath her as though bound and her head touching the floor, leaving the bow of her back exposed. {Priest-Kings of Gor, pgs 201 & 202}
I went to Targo, trembling, and knelt at his feet... I crossed my wrists beneath me and touched my head to the floor, exposing the bow of my back. It is the submissive posture of a slave girl who is to be punished. It is called Kneeling to the Whip. {Captive of Gor pg 200}

Lesha


the slave remains standing or kneeling, depending upon her current position. She turns away from her Master, tilting up her chin and turns her head to the left as a leash is attached to her collar. Her wrists are extended behind her to be locked into slave bracelets or otherwise bound. (Slave Girl of Gor, page 125)
leashed-legs tie: a standard submission tie; the kneeling girl has the leash, attached to her collar, passed down the front of her body and between her legs to bind her crossed ankles together. (Fighting Slave of Gor, page 244)

Nadu


A kneeling slave is directed to straighten her back and sit on her heels, lifting her head, and placing her hands, palms down, on her thighs. There are a couple of examples which suggest a variation of uplifted palms, though this appears to be an exception to the basic position.

She knelt back on her heels, knees wide, hands on her thighs. It was the position of the Pleasure Slave. I had taught her the position. It is one of the first things a good-looking woman, fallen slave, is taught on Gor. {Tribesmen of Gor, ch 2}
The position of the Pleasure Slave, incidentally, differs from the position of both the free woman and the Tower Slave. The hands of a Pleasure Slave normally rest on her thighs but, in some cities, for example, Thentis, I believe, they are crossed behind her. More significantly, for the free woman's hands may also rest on her thighs, there is a difference in the placing of the knees. In all these kneeling positions, incidentally, even that of the Pleasure Slave, the Gorean woman carries herself well; her back is straight and her chin is high. She tends to be vital and beautiful to look upon. {Priest-Kings of Gor, ch 6}
"Kneel," he said, "in the position of the pleasure slave." She knelt, then, back on her heels, her knees spread widely, her back straight, her shoulders back, her belly sucked in, her head up, her hands on her thighs. Between her teeth was the staff of the whip. {Kajira of Gor}
"Come now, my pretty slaves," said Ginger, "kneel straight. Back straight, heads up. Back on your heels there! Spread those pretty knees. Yes, that is the way men like it. Put your hands, palms down, on your thighs. Good. good. Excellent!" The girls now knelt in the coffle as pleasure slaves. {Savages of Gor, pg 155}
"Nadu!" he snapped. She swiftly turned, facing him, and dropped to her knees. She knelt back on her heels, her back straight, her hands on her thighs, her head up, her knees wide. It was the position of the pleasure slave. {Explorers of Gor, pg 77}

Obeisance


aka. obedience position; a position of extreme deference which is described as a slave deeply bowing her head from the basic pleasure slave position, often flattening her palms against the floor and leaning forward to lick and kiss the boots of a Free person. ( Rogue of Gor, page 299; Mercenaries of Gor, page 409; Dancer of Gor, pages 114 and 186)

"There are many ways to perform obeisance." I said.
"I am a free woman," she said, "I know none of them."
"I shall instruct you briefly in three," I said. " First kneel before me , back on your heels, yes, with your knees wide, wider, your hands on your thighs, your back straight, your breasts out, good, your belly in, good, and now lower your head in deference, in submission."
"Now that," I said, "may not be exactly a form of obeisance, for authorities do not all agree, but for our purposes we shall count it as one. It is, at any rate, a beautiful position, and it is, certainly, a common position of slave submission."
"Now" I said, "and this is clearly a form of obeisance, bend forward and put your head to the mat, the palms of your hands on the mat. Good. Now lift your head little and come forward, substantially keeping the position. Forward a little more."
"But then my face will be at your feet," she said," My lips will be over them!"
"Yes," I said, "Good, now, put your head down and lick and kiss my feet."
"I am a free Woman!" She Said.
"You are a woman," I said, "now softly lingeringly, and lovingly, Good."
"I am not a slave," she said.
"All women are slaves," I said "Imagine what this would be like if you were truly a collared slave."
She gasped.
"Now" I said, "for a third form of obeisance. You may belly to me."
"I do not understand," she whispered.
"There are various forms of bellying," I said, and bellying may be suitably and pleasingly combined with other forms of floor movements, approaching the Master on all fours, turning to your sides and back, writhing before him, and so on. We will take a very simple variation, suitable for an ignorant free female who has not yet even begun to discover the depths of her sexuality."
She looked up at me. "On your belly," I said. She backed off a bit , and went to her belly. Her hair was before her face, as she now on her belly before me looked up at me. "Now inch forward," I said, "remaining low on your belly, and when you reach my feet, once again, as before, lifting your head a little, tenderly and humbly, and beautifully, as though you were a slave, lick and kiss them. Good. Good. Now take my foot and place it gently on your head. Very good. Now place it again on the Mat, and kiss it again. Good. You may now belly back a little, humbly. "I muchly wronged you. I was stupid and cruel. I showed you too little respect. I now beg your forgiveness, as a woman, now a slave."
"You seem much different now from before," he said.

"Heads to the dirt!" called a man. Swiftly we assumed a common form of slave obeisance, kneeling, the palms of our hands on the ground, our heads to the ground. Many masters, though it tends to be rather associated, usually, with given cities, require this position of their girls, usually when they first enter his presence, or find themselves, as in a room which he has entered, in his presence. She is then, usually, when given permission, permitted to lift her head, but is to remain kneeling before him,beautifully, in a standard position, her knees closed if she is a house or tower slave, her knees open, if she was the sort of slave I was, whatever sort of slave that was supposed to be. {Dancer of Gor, pg 114}

When this command is given the slave turns her head up to the Master her lips pursed in a sensual kissing position. She remains motionless her lips thusly puckered and may not move until she is granted the kiss of a Master. (Blood Brothers of Gor, pages 111 and 404; Kajira of Gor, page 224)

Gestures


There are many gestures that a Free Person may use to command a slave, many are quite simple to understand such as the Free Person pointing to the slave and then to Their furs suggesting the slave approaches or perhaps kneels before them. Some gestures are used for many commands, the snap of the Master's fingers can be an unspoken command for the slave to stop their dance or to perhaps even start to dance, it can be a command for the slave to quiet or even a command for the slave to approach. Note that as always, nothing is ever set in stone, it is always good for the slave to pay attention to the Free and Their habits and Their own desires.

Bound by the Master's Will


refers to a slave being commanded to hold position, as though bound, hands clasping opposite wrists until she is released. (Dancer of Gor, page 227)
"Your hands are now bound behind your back," he said.
"Yes, Master," I said. I must now keep my hands or wrists in contact with one another, and behind my back. I was now "bound by the master's will."
I could not separate my hands or wrists from one another now without permission. There are many ways, of course, of "binding by the master's will." The behind-the-back position is one of the simplest and loveliest. This exposes the girl, frames the beauty of her breasts and makes her helpless. That the bond is a "will bond," too, makes clear to her the power of the master over her. Another common bond of this sort is when the girl must kneel, grasping her ankles. Another is when she is forced to sit and reach forward between her legs, passing the right arm from inside the right thigh to outside and beneath the right calf, to grasp the right ankle from the outside, and the left arm from inside the left thigh to outside and beneath the left calf, to grasp the left ankle in the same way. In this position she is helpless and cannot rise. Too. after a time, it becomes apparent to her that she also cannot close her legs. A girl may be kept in such bonds for hours. Too, of course, she may be tied in such positions. There are also, of course, different ways of decreeing such bonds. Hilda's face burned red with fury, but she kept her head high. Pet sleen are taught to heel; so, too, sometimes, are bond-maids; I was familiar with this sort of thing, of course; in the south it was quite common for slave girls; in various fashions in various cities, to heel their masters. In an open area, such as the fields in which we trekked, the girl is placed usually some five or ten feet behind, and on the left. If he must move suddenly she will not, thusly, constitute an impediment to his action.... . I walked behind him, and to the left. I suppose I should have minded.
