| March 1, 2004 March already! Before you know it, I'm going to have grandchildren and be reminiscing about my days living in Toronto... unless of course I live it Toronto when I'm an old lady ^_^ Not likely though... This past weekend was wonderful. It began with Victoria walking into my lab, ready for a weekend adventure! We headed off to Amanda's rez, where we chatted and then dined at the Chalet Suisse (as Dad would say) and spent an hour and a half at the ROM. It was very interesting as Amanda has a wealth of knowledge about Egypt and evolution, so it was like having our own private guide. Since Victoria got up so early that morning for her usual commute to work, we went to bed pretty early to rest up for another day of adventures... On the Saturday, we finally hit Chinatown and Kensington market. The highlight of the day was my first Dim Sum experience, thanks to the generosity of Victoria. We had Shrimp dumplings (har gow), shrimp and meat dumplings in a Chiu Chow Style, BBQ pork in a white bun, custard in a white bun, and deep fried meat dumpling. I forget all the proper names, but it was delicious! Thank you Victoria! We were out walking around for around 8 hours, so we decided to can the Eaton Centre, and instead head home for movie time and pizza....and dessert! We rented Johnny English and Die Another Day. Johnny English was really cute and funny. Die Another Day was a very different Bond flick from usual (in a good way), but the science was TERRIBLY inaccurate. I don't think they spared any money in their budget for a scientific advisor, but they should have. For dessert, we feasted on Triple Chill cake (chocolate of course). And then once again, slumbering time! Sunday was full of surprises. After eating Chinese buns for breakfast that we picked up the day before, we headed out to the thrift stores. At Double Take, a store run by Yonge Street missions, we had fun trying on many coats. I bought a beautiful full-length wool dress coat for only six dollars! But Victoria beat me with her very stylish ski jacket for five dollars. All in all, a very thrifty outing! After some quick TimTams, our weekend adventures were over, and Victoria was off back to Mississauga. She will be coming back though to spend the weekend of March 12th for Missionfest, when we'll attend lots of seminars to learn lots of things! Check out the website! Anyways, I am waiting for a DNA gel to run, but I think it's done now, so ciao for now! And happy March! ~Mari-J |
| March 7, 2004 - Happy 20th Birthday Kim! I would like to start this blog by wishing ImKim a wonderful 20th birthday. I wish that I could give you a birthday hug Kim, but it'll have to wait until April ^_^ To blogging business... Mom and Dad are at Chateau Montebello this weekend. They won a weekend getaway (I forget how), but it sounds like a lot of fun. They get to go on a sleigh ride, have a curling lesson, and... well, that's all I can recall at the moment. In any case, the resort sounds beautiful, and I hope they're having a great time! It is now less that two weeks until I get to see them!! (I haven't seen them since January 4th). I have a quiet weekend to myself. On Friday night, Amanda and I went to B-side to see my cousin Paul's band, Sixadrift. I thought they sounded really good, but apparently, they weren't too pleased because the foot pedal on the drum broke, the amps were really bad, and the drum set was moving around the stage on Cam. I was still proud of them though! The band after them was really awesome too (there were 11 bands, but we only stayed for three or four). They were called Jupiter Spokane. I have a feeling that we'll be hearing them on the radio sometime in the future. It was really nice to see Paul after over two months. I also got to see Helen and Tyrone, and Paul's new wife, Janice. It was like a mini-family reunion =) Yesterday I mostly worked on my book... which still doesn't have a name. I didn't write too much, but revamped some old stuff. I did, however, finally fill in the battle seen of the tribal divide. It makes the prologue a bit more dramatic I think. I also continued on where I left off and wrote two more pages or so. I'm having a block though of what to do with my main male character's life while my main female character is... well, I can't give away the story, can I? ^_^ Anyhoo, a wee bit of writer's block, but it's nice to have this past-time to keep me occupied. This morning I listened to Charles Price's message from the Living Truth ministry. He said something about evangelism that really made me think. He was talking about two types of Christians... those who are saved, and those who are saved and embrace the full life that Jesus offers us. He made some interesting points about how we compartmentalize Jesus in our lives, sometimes only giving him the title "Saviour". But "Saviour" is only one aspect of Jesus' work as "Lord", which is who he is. As Charles Price pointed out, it's like calling your wife or husband your cook. Yes, your wife or husband may cook for you, but that is only part of who they are, as your husband or wife. It was actually quite funny! But getting back to evangelism... he said something that was very humbling to me. He said, "As evangelists, we are simply beggars showing other beggars where the bread is. We don't graduate from being beggars in this life." To me, this statement really reinforced the truth that as Christians, we are no better than those who haven't "heard the truth". Instead of getting on our high horse, we should turn our eyes to God on High and be so thankful that He has chosen us to be His messangers. Anyways, just some food for thought. I just noticed that it's snowing outside! =O Amanda's going to take a fit! Anyways, I am going to attend a murder mystery tonight at Amanda's rez (she is playing one of the characters. I am very looking forward to it!). I had better go now. To all you reading, God bless you and take care as you live out your day. ~Mari-J |
