August 5, 2003 -- New Update:  "Day In Life of"  Page is up an running!

Wow!  Can anyone else believe that it's August already!?  This past long weekend was excellent, I must say!  First, shopping with Sarah and Amanda on Friday night (thank you so much Sarah for the birthday gift!... nobody freak out, it's a REALLY early birthday gift ^_^ ), followed by "Interview with a Vampire".  Saturday was the Genome exhibit at Museum of Nature, with night-time highlights at Mart's watching "Antwone Fisher"... one of my favourite movies, you have to see it!  Sunday was "Pirates of the Caribbean" with my gals, Amanda and Sarah (Wow, I watched a movie a day!).  You have to see this movie!  Besides the fact that Orlando Bloom is in it... errr.... ahem... It's got a unique plot, action, suspense, romance, and comedy all rolled into one!  Johnny Depp was so funny... he really made the movie.  Orlando's got skills, and those pirates are really creepy!  I would most likely not recommend the movie for young children because of the scary factor, but anybody around 9 or 10 should be fine... should be!  And the soundtrack is just fantastic.

Yesterday was a very special day.  Mom and Dad and I hopped in the car and headed for Smith Falls, where we met Rebecca's parents and her two daughters, Shannon and Avery.  We had a wonderful time.  Rebecca's parents treated us to a feast!  Lasagna, salad, garlic bread, buns, pickles... everything you can imagine!  But the best was yet to come... dessert =)  There were chocolate cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream with chocolate sauce (notice the emphasis on the chocolate!).  Her parents made us feel very welcome.  We took some great pictures, which I will upload sometime over the next couple of days.  So I'd like to extend a great big thank you to Rebecca and her parents.  It was truly a magical time.

So, today it's back to the grind.  Dad and I are still practicing driving like crazy for the test on Thursday.  I don't think I'm absolutely doomed to fail anymore, which is refreshing!  It doesn't mean that it couldn't happen... it just means I actually think I'm capable at this point of passing.  It's amazing how a few hours out in the car can make you feel so much more comfortable with being behind the wheel, worrying less about shifting and clutching, etc...  I guess I only have one nervous habit which my Dad pointed out to me yesterday.  Apparently, almost every time I shift, I take my hand that just finished shifting and adjust my glasses.  Weird, eh?  Anyways, gotta run!  Have a great day everyone... may God bless you!

Gahh!  I can't get "He's a Pirate!" out of my head!  It's just sooo good!  I think it's all the accents that I really like... it's got spunk without being too spunky... if that made sense!

I went to see Finding Nemo with Sarah last night after Dad and I went driving for an hour and a half (I've never gone to the theatre so much before... =$) It was really great!  See
Movie Review Central to read my review of this movie and more!  (Okay... I'll stop with the sales tactics...)

Does anybody else just not talk in the morning?  I think anyone that knows me knows that I really like to talk, but for some reason (maybe because for so many years, the mornings have been solitary with Dad already at work and Mom not up yet), I just don't have the energy to talk until about an hour or two after I get up.  It makes me feel bad, because sometimes I'll make eye-contact with someone on the bus, and they'll smile at me, and any other time of day I would return the smile, but I guess a smile is kinda close to talking, and sometimes I don't think my face makes it to a smile.  That's why I'd just rather sleep on the bus... keep my eyes closed, have no idea what's going on around me... ignorance I suppose.

Yes, so that's the blog for today!  Getting excited for Nova Scotia!  I miss you all down there... see you soon =)

Good news!  Or bad news... depending how you view me being loose on the roads ^_^  You guessed it, I passed my G1 exit test!! Yahoo!  Talk about a relief.  It's like a huge worry has been lifted... not only the worry of failing, but the worry of not being able to get a re-test, and consequently my licence expiring before I can get my G, etc, etc...  Thanks to everyone who encouraged me!  And again thanks to AliO for the tips and Aimee for the book.

That's it for today... after work, I'm off to gelato with Victoria and mini-put later (hopefully).  Adios!

Little known factoid of the day... we moved into our lovely home 7 years ago today.  Happy Birthday House!

I can't believe what I've been missing for three years by not having my licence!  It's like... I've all of the sudden sprouted wings or something!  This past weekend was really fun.  Victoria came over to meet the Orleans crew, and she was in the car with me for the first time that I ever drove with my licence.  She and I met everyone at the Innes Golfland and had a quick round of mini-put *darn mozzies!* and went back to Panda's afterwards.  After a refreshing night's sleep, it was a million trips to Canadian Tire the next day... okay, well not a million, but close!  I got some great stuff on sale for back-to-school, and then we went and visited Sarah at work and watched "Save the Last Dance".  It was so nice to spend the day with Victoria... our meetings are sometimes so rushed since I always have to hop on a bus before it gets too late during the week.  And did I mention that we went to Pure Gelato!??  I tell you, just ask Victoria if you want to know the hot spots around Ottawa!  (And she's from the 'Sauga!)  The gelato there is absolutely amazing... can you imagine a scoop of gelato that tastes EXACTLY like you're biting into a big, cool lump of After Eight?  Mmmmm...

After dropping Victoria off at the bus station, I drove completely alone for the first time... does that ever feel weird!  I actually feel much more comfortable now driving with the radio on when I'm alone so that I don't start thinking too much.  I guess just listening to something helps keep me relaxed.  It's cool now though, I've done it a few times since, and there has never been any problem.

Mom and I went to dinner at Ron and Leslie's on Saturday night, and had a great time, as usual!  After dinner, Amanda, Jenn and I settled down on the couch to watch "Kangaroo Jack"... I'm not even going to bother reviewing it for you.  It's slapstick humour and a pretty thin plot, but entertaining if you just feel like chillaxing and not thinking =)

School's coming quick!  And Nova Scotia even quicker!  It's been such a great summer... and I think it will be a great year, however stressful it will be.  I guess I can only wait and see!

Ciao

Congratulations to Paul and Janice on their Wedding! (August 15, 2003)

Well, well, well... here we are near the end of the biggest power outage in history.  Last Thursday (a week from yesterday), I was just getting ready to leave work, and my computer and all the lights went out (4:12pm).  I packed my stuff and left, along with my co-worker Bonnie, and we went down the stairs from the 13th floor since all the elevators were full.  It didn't take too long before the rumours, which ended up being true, spread that all of Ontario was out, and not only that, New York City as well.  Upon hearing that, my overactive imagination immediately jumped to the thought of terrorism, but I wasn't alone in that thought. Thank God above that this was not the case.  As it turns out, the power surge originated in Ohio, and was the source of our fallen darkness.  The ride home was stifling.  The downtown core was an absolute mess, with all the traffic lights out... it took over 45 minutes just to get from Bay street to the Mackenzie King bridge.  My thoughts, however, were on how on earth I was going to get ahold of my friend Bryna, who was bussing it from the west end and meeting me at the mall at 6 pm.  I had no way of knowing when she would arrive, and if she had even left.  On the bus, people were actually talking to each other.  That's one very positive thing about these sort of occurences... people band together.  I arrived at the mall at 5:50, the same time that I was supposed to pick Margaret up in the car... obviously that wasn't going to happen.  I thought I'd go and see if Bryna was at the drop-off point before catching my connection, and like a miracle, there she was!  She had decided to leave early so that she could browse around the mall before we met her.  I was so relieved!

That evening, it was tuna sandwiches for dinner, and a night of board games by candlelight.  Our original plan of shopping had become impossible.  We had fun anyway.  Leslie suggested we bring in our solar powered garden lights.. .and that's exactly what we did!

We were very fortunate.  Our power came back at around 11:30, saving our meat in the freezer from spoilage.  Many others weren't as lucky.  One very strange thing did happen however... as soon as our power came back, our phones went dead.  And not only our phones... our whole power grid's phones... for 5 whole days!  With no cell phone, it was very tricky indeed to get a hold of people.  Thanks to Leslie, Ron and the girls, we had a cell phone by the third day, since they leant us theirs.  Thanks so much to all of you for everything over this past week!  We have enjoyed your company so much =)

On an up-note, I got the whole week off work!  This has given me a chance to spend extra time with friends and family before going back to Waterloo... and web-paging!  Dad has arrived safe and sound from his motorcycle trip to Cornerbrook, Newfoundland for Paul and Janice's wedding.   My trip to Nova Scotia is coming up fast!  I'll be on the same plane as Aimee-Lee.  Isn't that cool?  Anyways, scanning and such has quite exhausted me, and I must eat something!  Ta ta for now =)
