Since the MyGen thing, local band concerts have become a weekly fare here in Baler. The
2nd bilyaran to put up a rock show this year, the Sarap Mag B peeps get big points in
positioning their place as the coolest bilyaran in town. Alvin here providing some help.
Badfish played without their guitar virtuoso, Amadz but Roy Angara filled in his place
with some of his not-that-bad licks. Probably rubbed off some of the Amads genius.
This rock stuff is really getting into this kid's head. He now has a signature pose that
could end up printed in red tshirts someday if he become famous outside the Baler-San Luis
boundary.
And from the Dipuntu speaking town of Maria Aurora (pronounced Marya!) comes The
Grounds. They play the usual favorites and they occasionaly drag in a girl friend to do
the singing.
Don't know what happened to their sunsilk model looking vocalist Dennis Belen but I
spotted him watching his band from the gate. Maybe he had laryngitis or something. This is
Balen Bitong, the guitarist also doing the vox.
Fresh from a motorcycle accident that almost de-sknnned half of his face, drummer Diego
Bitong is back with his new exfoliated mug.
Some members of Musikang Bayan, a progressive music outfit based in Manila played their
original songs mostly Tagalog stuff about the pinoy's daily struggles. Batang Baler
Jonathan Urbano provided the licks, the voice and the spoken word chuva.
This collective already released a self propelled album called Rosas ng Digma which
prompted me to hunt for the tape and have a listen. Brought me back to the L.A. 105 days
of Edmund Fortuno, Buklod, and the likes. This is Jo Mira on bass.
News has it that they're about to releease their sophomore album. their no. 1 fan Donnel
can't wait. Mak Ramirez plays the drums.
Marco, half stoked and half drunk, donated some songs during the Badfish set. His band,
now called D'Ayyots is on vacation.
The hunks of Baler performing a duet. This is like the Baler equivalent of Brandon Boyd
