Walk Away Dreams:  Chapter Four

---------next day early morning-----

A painful throbbing woke me from my unconscious.  I slowly opened my eyes to find my self in a dim lit hospital room.  Certainly smelled like one.  My left arm had an IV inserted, which I've never had one before.  I couldn't feel it much, but it still irked me watching the liquid in the tube into in my arm.  I lifted my other arm to touch my face.  Bandages were wrapped around the top of my head.  As I pressed against it, more blood seeped through.  `Ugh' I thought to myself.

Everything started to flood back to me on what happened.  I was going home in a cab...and Jon was beside me.  My heart skipped.

"What happened to him?" I questioned aloud.  Searching for an answer in my empty room.

I sat up, only to feel an agonizing pain from my right leg.  I couldn't tell what was wrong...A darkness started to rush to me as I melted back down into the bed.  I looked to my right to see a clock that said it was 3:00 A.M.  I drifted back into my foggy sleep.

----later---

Soft murmuring began to awake me.  I looked up and saw my three closest friends spread amongst the room.  Zei was asleep in a chair that was next to the window of the room and my other two friends were standing by the doorway, Mallie and Gina.

I've known both of them what it seems almost forever.  They both attended the same college as Zei and I,  where they lived across the walkway from us in the apartment complex.  Never a dull day when we were together running a muck.

"Hey," I said hoarsely.

Both Gina and Mallie looked up at me at the same time and walked over to the bed.

"Hey," Gina said slowly and tried her best to smile.

"How are you feeling?" asked Mallie.

"Um...a little pain...and I have a feeling more than one Midol pill can make this feel any better."

Mallie smiled and sat down beside me on one of the hospital stools and looked down at the floor, then up at me.

"We were so scared when we heard you were in a car accident," she stated slowly.  Gina nodded at this.

"What exactly happened?  Do yall know?" I questioned as I bit my bottom lip.

Gina leaned against the bed and spoke.

"Well, when you were coming on your way home, a passing car hydroplaned...and...then ran into you."

"How bad was it?"

"From what the nurse told us, when that other car ran into yall, it pushed the car off the road and hit another car that was parked along the side, which went into the drivers side...the cab driver was killed."

"Oh," I said starting to feel my heart race a little faster.

"What happened to Jon?"
