| Walk Away Dreams: Chapter One By: Cam As I stared across the diner and sighed and looked at Zei. She stared intensely at the diners small television screen bolted above the counter table. I squinted at the screen. Colin Ferrell must be on I thought jokingly, and I was right. I chuckled at this. Zei looked at me while pouting. "Whats so funny Chrystal?," she questioned, knowing the answer. "Err...nothing!," I stated as a played with the salt and pepper shakers smirking. "Well...need I remind you that your a psychotic Jon Stewart fan?" "Heh, we both know that. Your so easy to tease," I smiled. "You do realized that hes a bachelor now huh?" "Yeah, not that it affects me in anyway." "Well you never know..." "Until I see raining squirrels!" I stated while rolling my eyes. The waitress walked over to us grumbling...she looked like she hadnt slept in days. She flopped down our plates in a noisy manner then left. Service with a smile I see I thought to myself. I stared at my rubber-like eggs and bacon as Zei poked at her omelet. "Whos idea was it to stop here?" Zei exclaimed. "Not mine!" "Right..." she glared then look back at her omelet and took a piece of it...followed by a look of disgust. Eh...it looked alright on the outside I pondered while I gnawed on the fattening bacon. We were almost home coming back from our spring break to visit family in the outskirts of New York. Our hometown could be called a medium sized town. Our third year of college coming to an end soon I thought happily. I gazed out the misty window with "Angies Diner" painted in gold etched across the window. I was quite tired after that long trip. I closed my eyes for a brief moment. "Ooh... a dancing squirrel," I pointed at the squirrel hoping across the telephone wire, then jumping to the ground. "You know a squirrel at my Klondike Bar once." Zei looked at me funny. Which she always did, but she didnt stop. "What?" I asked. "Uh..." as her eyes began to widen more. "What??" "Er...um...um er...." "What is it? Out with it girl!!!" I burst as I began to shake her like shes a bag of shake and bake chicken. She whispered, "Look over to your right..." "What? I cant hear you.." I whispered back...wondering why we were whispering in the first place. "Look over to your right!!" I quickly glanced guessing she was pulling a prank of some kind and I couldnt believe what I saw. It was...the utter desire himself!! Jon Stewart!! I blinked several times. NO WAY!!. YOU MUST BE KIDDING ME!! My mind screamed. But sure enough...there he was. Sitting there staring at the diners red and white checkered menu. He fumbled with his leather jacket then set it aside showing the gray short-sleeved shirt with a grudged logo that looked something from American Eagle. He looked up at me then smiled. I quickly turned back around red as a beet. My heart suddenly choked my throat. How long was I staring as I turned again to get a second glance, which he looked at me again. "Oh god," I whispered.. "He must think I'm a psycho" "Nothing wrong with that! I think you should go over there!" Zei squealed with delight. "Uh...I dont know.." "Hello?? Hes all by himself and he was looking at you anyways!" "Sure because I gave him the: I am a stalker and hear me roar stare." "Ill drag you over there myself." she threatened. "No, no, no...I dont think..." "I do think so!" she burst nonchalantly. Eh...I better not look over there again I stated in my mind. But, since how I never listen anyways I looked again biting my lower lip. He then looked at me then motioned me to come over there. I looked around to see if hes waving down the right person...then I awkwardly set up from the stool and began walking over to his table. I felt like a dork in Jr. High all over again. "Come sit!" he said, motioning me to the seat across from him. "Um...okay," I stuttered as I screeched in the brown leather seat. Uh...speak! I told myself. "Hi...Im Chrystal....I'm a big fan of yours, heh,...as if you cant tell," I said half jokingly as I out stretched my hand. "And I am Jon," he greeted as he met my hand shaking it while arching his eyebrow with handsome smirk. I smiled accompanied with nervous laughter. "I was wondering...perhaps a pretty young woman could recommend something on here?" he glanced at the menu. "To tell you the truth, from what I tasted here...and didnt quite much eat-- its not very good...like rubber cement" I said with a gagging motion. "If anything...they can make coffee right." He chuckled. "Well...that leaves me with quite a range of options," he said while closing the menu. The same waitress that waited Zei and I came up to the table. Either she was too dead tired to understand the miracle before me or never watched the Daily Show. Ha...who hasnt seen it? it would be a sin to miss it' I told myself. "What can I get you?" she asked. "Just coffee please," he stated "Anything for you Maam?" "No thanks." I looked past the waitress to look at Zei...she had the biggest, goofiest grin on her fast as she watched the action unfold. She then reminded me of a oompa loompa at that moment. I lifted my eyebrows at her thinking I have no idea... The waitress returned with the coffee and set it in front of him. "Thank you," he said while he took a sip. I turned backed to look at Jon as he cleared his throat. "Interesting friend you got there." "Yeah...shes different." I laughed "Tell me...are you from around here?" "Yeah, I live just a few blocks away from here. My friend Zei over there and I are just now coming back from visiting some friends and family in the outskirts." "Ah, interesting. I live close over near here also...I didnt feel like cooking so I figured eat out." "You cook huh? I can cook too...as long as it come in a box...like...cereal, pop tarts, and microwaveable dinners." I smirked. "Really?" he said crossing his arms. "Never would have guessed." he laughed. "Hey...thats not nice." "True true." I looked over at Zei again as she pointed to her watch. "Hum...I need to start going, need to do some more errands today. It was really nice to meet you," I said with a warm smile. "Listen, um...would you perhaps like to...meet with me, lets say for dinner?" Just then I had to stop myself from jumping up and down. "Of course! I mean...I would like that," I tried to state coolly. "How does 8:00 tonight sound? and ill come by to pick you up?" "Alright..." I pulled out a pen from my purse...but I didnt have any paper. "Do you have some paper so I can write my address and number?" He looked around. "Um...heres a napkin" I yanked on the napkin. It was strong enough alright. I quickly jotted down everything and slid it over to him. I waved goodbye and walked over to Zei smiling. This must be the greatest day of my life!! "Chrystal..." "Chrystal....." "CHRYSTAL" I snapped back from my daze as I looked at Zei. I looked around and I was still sitting at the counter top w/very cold eggs and bacon in front of me. I quickly glanced all around the room. It was dream... It was a dream? IT WAS A DREAM. "Ooh.." I muttered. "Whats wrong?" Zei asked with a questioning glance. "I had the most realistic dream...it had Jon Stewart in it...man...now Im disappointed," I pouted. "What are you talking about silly," she stammered. "When you walked back over here you sad down then you fell into a quick nap" she giggled. "You mean...I actually talked to him??" "Yes..." she said slowly. "I think I should drive us back to the apartment." She patted the top of my head and grabbed my keys and got up. "I paid the ticket, now lets go! You need to rest up for tonight." |
