A Kiss to Die For:  Chapter One
By:  Cam

After 10 hours of driving, I wasnt even sure what the ground felt like anymore.  I pulled up to a small, quaint,  two bedroom house that my best friend and I rented.  We got it for a fraction of the cost and with two, smart college gals such as us to pay for the monthly bills, we could make it just fine.

"What do you think Mallie?" I asked looking at the white, wooden house.

"Looks pretty small, but we will have to see what the inside looks like."

"Indeed," I said and stepped out of the car.  I felt sort of...like I just  came off a boat.

*thump*

"Eh?" I questioned looking for what made that sound.

I walked over to the other side of the car to find Mallie sitting on the ground, crossing her arms.

"You all right?"

"Yes...lost my balance...we are never driving 10 hours straight like that again."

"Well...we did stop for bathroom breaks....and...um...ate," I said positively.

"Right Chrystal...." Mallie said with a glare.

"We did get here faster...gotta give me props for that!"  I grabbed her hands and helped her up.

Slowly we made our way to the front door as Mallie unlocked it and pushed the door opened.  I flicked the lights on that illuminated the main hallway that lead to the pale white living room.

Mallie breathed in.

"Smell that?  Thats freedom!"

I breathed in and coughed.

"And dust....but free dust," I laughed.

We already had the big stuff in the house along with the few things for decorating purposes.  Everything was pretty much set up like the phone and TV.  I went back outside and opened up the back of the car that had boxes and boxes of clothes, nick knacks, and other personal things we brought for ourselves.  After 30 minutes or so, we had unloaded all the boxes from the car.  We settled up our rooms a little bit with the bed covers and a few clothes.  It was dark already when we finished, then collapsed on the brown cushioned couch.

Mallie looked at the clock.

"Guess what time it is?"

"Um...tea time?"

"Guess again...Thursday night....one of the final nights of the week," she said smugly.

"Then....must be Jon time!" I squealed.

"Correct!"

I searched frantically for the remote.

"Where is the remote?"

"Um..."

I looked at a pile of unopened boxes.  We cant turn the television on manually since the button to the change the channel was broken.

"Darn it all...well, we can search for it tomorrow, it will be on again in the evening.  So, we wont miss Jon and Zin time," I said while I yawned.

Jon and Zin time was most important for us, it was sacred.  Well...sacred for us anyways.  The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.  Jon was my idol as Colin (nicknamed Zin) was Mallies.

One of the things we hoped to do here, being in New York and all, is get a chance to see the shows tapings.  Problem is to find a date between college and work, also the studios were pretty far.  But we will get to go see them sometime.  Just takes some schedule planning.

"Well, I say we call it a night," I said to her yawning again.

"Sounds like a good plan, Night!" Mallie said as she stood up.

"Nighty night."

I went to my room and changed.  Pulling into my red moose print pajama pants and slipped on a white tank top.  After turning out the light, I then dove into my bed and sighed.  Moonlight came through the window that was over my bed.  I raised my hands up and made shadow puppets with my hands.  The things I do when Im bored I thought.  I closed the blinds then settled into my warm bed.

"Ahhh..." I said out loud closing my eyes.  Snuggling into the sheets.

*scurry scurry scurry*

My eyes shot back open.  What the hell was that?!? I thought.  Sounded like something was on the roof...

"Since its July, it sure isnt Santa," I told myself.

*scurry scurry scurry*

I then sat up and stood out of my bed.  I left my room and went out in the hallway and peeked in Mallies room.  I could see she was still awake as well.

"Did you hear that?" I whispered.

"Yes.."

"What do you think it is?"

"I dont know..."

"Just dont worry about it," Mallie finally said.  "Its outside, it must be a raccoon or something"

"Aye...I suppose so....or it could be the ice weasels coming to take my life..."

"Night, Get some sleep!"

I went back into my room and flopped in the bed.  I can freak out about things sometimes...especially noises.  I didnt hear the sound anymore and finally went to sleep.
