10/26/2001 - Well, I didn't achieve the soft of totals that I wanted to, but who's complaining? I won the week, and that is what counts. A good confidence-builder for the last-place team. Plus, things are starting to go my way. I have people who can perform - it is just a matter of starting them now that I know who they are. Culppepper is a no-brainer, weekly. So is Chad Lewis, Matt Stover and Marvin Harrison. That leaves me with choosing a defense, two running backs, and a wide receiver. At running back, I have a lot to platoon with. I carry six running backs just for this purpose, which is pretty valuable in a running-back starved league. At wide receiver, Muhsin and Joe Horn are a fabulous pair to have in the second spot with Harrison. Not bad. And once the Tennessee Titans defense is healthy, and begins to perform, they are a grade-A defense. I might have started slow, but this is a long haul, mother...

10/21/2001 - Well, with the bulk of the points in, I am in second place, wih a couple more guys yet to report. I am fairly confident that things are going to go my way. One of my guys is Ron Dayne, a running back, so we can reasonably expect between 200 and 400 points from him. That would accelerate me into the lead this weekend, and coupled with whatever Chad Lewis does (which can often be a significant amount) would leave me with a nice amount of points. And close the tenuous gap between MJ and I down there on the bottom.
10/13/2001 - The time has come, my friends, a resurrection of sorts. I have had a feeling in my gut all week that things are going to turn out just right tomorrow afternoon, and the ascension shall begin. Look out, folks, I'm coming at you from all angles... Daunte Culpepper, facing a team that has been destroyed by every quarterback facing them. Lamar Smith, who has proven himself to be more and more capable with each passing game is going to go against the Jets, who have the worst rush defense in the NFL. Mike Anderson faces a similarly mediocre run defense in the Seahawks, and lets face it, the Broncos will be up by 20 at halftime, and Anderson will get every subsequent yard of offense for Denver. Game over. My defense is also Denver, who will reap the benefits of Anderson running that clock out. Marvin Harrison has simply been due all season, and he is the playmaker. This Jerome Pathon shit cannot continue. Joe Horn faces the horrible Panthers secondary tomorrow. Newly aquired Stephen Alexander has the job of beating the Dallas D for a couple of receptions, which shouldn't be that hard. Matt Stover is in place as usual, and will deliver 100 points, minimum. I'm predicting between 1600 and 2400 points tomorrow, so look out, suckas...
10/8/2001 - No news, just a lot of bitching. Things are definitely not going the way that I want this year, and because of this horrible fact, I am no longer referring to this as news, but as Why My Team Sucks. So, for this week's edition, let me start off by congratulating the Titans Defense on a wonderfully despicable week that completely undermined any faith I had in their defense. Denver Defense, get ready to get off the bench... Next, I would like to thank all of my wide receivers and running backs, with the notable exception of Lamar Smith, for making a complete boob out of me this week. Everyone I started sucked, and everyone who was riding the pine scored muchas pointas. Outside of all that, I don't have anything to say. Except that I am willing to trade Rich Gannon for a starting RB or WR...
9/24/2001 - Well, wow, the points are rolling in as I speak, and everything is finally back in action after a brief, warranted hiatus. Daunte didn't have the best of days, but numerically he did okay. Marvin Harrison was on the receiving end of three of Peyton's five touchdowns, so there were some serious points. Lamar Smith had an okay day. Titans performed. Stover booted one. It's not looking like the disaster that my first week was. What's cool is that I still have Mike Anderson and Bill Schroeder to go - what a deal.
9/7/2001 - Well, the season is off and running, boys and girls, and Davinci is going to kick a little ass. Second pick overall gets me Daunte Culpepper, and the best QB performer in the NFL, and the leading overall point scorer from last year. I couldn't have been happier, even with the first pick.
A lot of good guys went between my first and second pick, but I got my favorite player in the NFL, Stephen Davis. A small bit of a risk, given he got injured at the end of last year, but he's been a horse the last two years, and I am expecting the same type of year out of him. And then for my third pick, Marvin Harrison. What a deal. 17th pick overall, for the second-best wide-receiver in the league. In my own humble opinion, I got three guys who are all the best at their position, give or take.
And then in the fourth round, I picked up the Titans Defense. Best defense in the league - anyone who thinks that the Ravens are is deluding themselves. Great defenses were made to be broken, and every team in the league is looking to do just that. Their offense is getting a kick in the pants, and if they put up more points, the defense is won't have to work as hard, and they won't work as hard. No, the inconsistent play of Steve Mcnair and company will keep the Titans Defense on its toes enough to be the best in the league. Right after that I picked up the Broncos Defense. I picked heavy defense because they are responsible for so many points, you just can't afford to be without a defense that will score you points. A good defense, as I found last year, can score you like four or five-hundred points a week. Only a few QBs in the league can put up those kinds of numbers, and only one running back who can. No coach has ever placed in the league with a shoddy defense.
Fifth round, I jumped on Rich Gannon because he was the last uber-QB left. There weren't any real powerhouse point earners at RB or defense, so it was a logical choice. At that point, all of the pimps had pretty much been taken across the board. So, I started to go for mid-value WR. I grabbed up Joe Horn.
I then felt it was time to get a second running back, since they were going to fast and there was a fellow high ony my list, and a lot of guys were getting picked below him on that list. I drafted Lamar Smith, who I actually didn't have much faith in, but I am a strong believer in adhering to your draft list. Especially with so many guys going under him.
Then I pulled off something that I figured I would only have about 50/50 odds on achieving. I drafted Terrell Davis, thought to be the starter for Denver by most. And then, around the table, and back to me, and I pick Mike Anderson. Aaron called it "the coup of the draft", and it couldn't have been put more beautifully. So now I have the Denver Running Back (although Mike picked up Olandis Gary, but really, the joke's on him). Good for twenty some carries and one-hundred yards a game, and probably a touchdown or two.
I then shifted it down a coupled of gears, and picked up Matt Stover, the best kicker in the league, and the top point scorer from last year among kickers. He was the first kicker picked. I then grabbed Mushin Muhammad to further fill-out my WR core, which was falling behind the rest of the league. After that, another WR, Keenan McCardell, a pick I have been questioning lately. But like I said, you have to adhere to the list. No time to think at the draft, just causes trouble.
I go my third-most sought after TE in Chad Lewis, a fellow that had become my first-ever effective TE last year, so that was tight. I then filled out my first reserve position with Garrison Hearst, because I believe in quality before need. Garrison Hearst has a decent chance as anyone to rush for 1500 yards this season, with some TDs. Rich Garcia? Yes. Terrell Owens? Yes. Carries? Yes. His two years of ineffectiveness are over, and he is due to explode, it he ever will again.
I then proceeded to pick three straight Jaguars, a team that I honestly think is going to be a contender this year. They have such an awesome squad, as long as Taylor is healthy. They just need to get the train rolling, and not have such bad lack. This is the year. Now is the time. Brunell will finally learn how to pass again. Brady is going to be a touchdown machine. And Hollis gets 10 points every touchdown they score, and they will score lots.
And that was that.
