| Learning Beliefs | Over the past two decads technology has grown and millions of dollars have been spent in schools to keep updating technology. However, the article stated that without a thoughtful plan of how to implement the new technology, the new technology would not impact learning or teaching. When televisons and VCR's were new they were expected to change the face of education by integrating them into the classroom ("Successful K-12," 2003). As the old technology was successfully integrated, now must the new technology change the face of education. Technology is not just about Internet connections, hardware, or software programs. The importance is how technology is integrated into the curriculum. In planning technology environments, the article states a guiding question to ask is " 'Are students using technology in ways that deepen their understanding of academic content and advance their knowledge of the world around them?' " ("Successful K-12," 2003). Technology today does not just include computers, but includes video, digital camera, handheld computers, cell phones, and other devices ("Successful K-12," 2003). Procedures, policies, planning, and budgeting for technology should make an impact on students, staff, and community. To ensure this impact the article states a technology plan should be followed. The article states ten steps to successfully plan a technology environment ("Success K-12," 2003). First, is creating a vision were a program looks towards the future where teachers and students use technology to create a data-driven decision making atmosphere. Also, this plan is to include planning and productivity and how enhancments will be made to the current technology in place. The second is involving the stakeholders, where a varity of people should be involved, like teachers, administration, and the cumminity. Third, is gathering data to determine the need for technology advancements. Fourth is reviewing the research about the lastest in technology, if it is suitable for student and faculty needs. Fifth, is integrating technology into the curriculum so that it impacts student learning and teachers are trained properly. Sixth, is committing to professional development to make teachers proficient in using and implementing technology. Seven, is ensuring a sound infrastructure where technology is appropriately supported. Eighth is allocating appropriate funding and budgeting money for new technology and support the technology already in place. Ninth, is planning for ongoing monitoring and assessment to find if technology is effectively being used, or what elements may be missing. The last is preparing for tomorrow by encourgaging teachers to try new applications and set funding aside for the newest technology for future use ("Success K-12", 2003). "Successful K-12." (2003).
