Ellis' Resume of the Wisdom Family

Page 7 3.2 William (1) Wisdom, b: c1700, d: 1722, son of Francis (1) Wisdom, b: c 1676, d: 1750, was born either in Glouster of King & Queen Co., VA. It seems that William (1) Wisdom remeoved to Caroline Co., Va about 1730/33 where he first acquired by grant/bought 200-400 acres of land on which he lived as a planter until his death in 1772. His death is mentioned in 'Colonial Caroline' by Campbell. There are suggestions that William (1) Wisdom may also have been a merchant ?. Details on his life in Caroline Co., VA are sparse due to lack of county records prior to 1782. His wife or wives are unknown. There may be others but he seems to have had at least 4 children as follows:

4.1 William (2) Wisdom, b: c1731, d: 1801 born in King & Queen or Caroline Counties, VA, married 1st to ??, issue 2; married 2nd Sarah ???, issue 7. Note: This William (2) Wisdom seems to be the father of the Craddock Wisdom (1766-1835), last of Cumberland Co., VA.

4.2 Shadrack Wisdom, b: c 1733, d: ?? alive in 1779, probably was born in Caroline Co., VA. Info unavailable except he was mentioned in 'Colonial Caroline' by Campbell along with William (2) as being Execrs. of Ann Wisdom Chicks Estate in year 1779.

4.3 Ann Wisdom, b: c 1735, d: 1779, born in Caroline Co., VA, married in early 1750's to a ??? Chick, issue unknown; died during year 1779, with William (2) & Shadrack Wisdom designated Execrs. of her Estate.

4.4 (Daughter), b: c1740, d: ????, born in Caroline Co., Va, married ??. Believed to have been William Anderson of Caroline Co., VA ?.

NOTE: We realize that we have barely scratched the surface on researching the William (1) Wisdom branch of Thomas (1) Wisdom Family during their years in Caroline Co. VA. Time & health permitting we hope to resume effort to fill in many missing elements.
