The Dark Circle was formed by representatives of many worlds and races, who wished to amass power by creating the Affiliated Planets as a rival for the United Planets. The AP was able to steal several members of the UP,including Xanthu and Orando, by increasing hatred and fear towards the shapeshifting inhabitants of the UP world, Durla. They were further assisted with their plans by Leland McCauley, who provided teleportation technology powered by a spatial anomaly. The masked leader of the Circle sent the entire AP fleet to Durla through the spatial anomaly which caused it to rupture, freezing everyone and everything in time except for many of the Legion-naires, who had been secretly conditioned to resist the frozen time effect by the Time Trapper. The Legion succeeded in re-starting time but the majority of the AP fleet was destroyed. When the Science Police tracked down the Dark Circle Council, they found the council members had all been murdered. Brainiac 4, the Dark leader had murdered them before fleeing to Colu and attempting to kill her own son, Brainiac 5.1. The intervention of Gates, Live Wire and Spark led to her capture.
The AP continues to operate, supposedly without the corruption or influence of the Dark Circle. |
