Well, if there was any reason to be concerned about the fatigue that 9 games in 10 days may bring, you needed only witness the first 15 minutes of the
Wednesday match versus Class A power, Rockford Lutheran.  It was evident in this highly anticipated rematch that the host's were much more inclined
to run for a full 80 minutes, as opposed to our ladies who seemed "flat footed" in spells during the match.  The opening was not anticipated as Lutheran
scored in the first two minutes to take the advantage with the wind in the first half.  After settling done a bit, the ladies took to the attack themselves,
putting together 9 opportunities at goal, but only one of those arriving ON goal.  The half would end with Lutheran scoring for a second time with only 18
seconds left on the clock.  Not the halftime the coaching staff was hoping for.  With the wind in the second half the ladies were instructed to go forward
immediately... only we retreated for the next 10-15 minutes, giving up what proved later to be the game winner.  At 3-0 down, there was nothing to lose
and everyone but the keeper and sweeper were send in attack for the rest of the game.  It took until the last 8 minutes of the game for the ladies to make
it exciting, scoring from a tremendous buildup down the right side off a shot from freshmen Taylor Giedd, after narrowly missing a number of other
chances.  The second goal would come off a throw-in that landed in a crowded penalty area, for junior Danielle Mathieu to pounce on.  With 1:17
left in the match, there was little time to pull back the third goal, and time ended before the ladies could get the job finished.  A heavy lesson about
preparedness and executing the game plan were learned as the ladies likely could have earned a result had there been merely 5 minutes more.  Too
little, too late as the expression goes.  Unfortunate lesson, but perhaps very timely going into the last week of the season and on into the State
tournament.  Next time, ladies!!  ~ Coach Eiss
GAME 17:  East
[NIC-9 CONFERENCE]
Date:  Thursday, May-3, 4:15pm @ Rockford East High School
Starting Lineup:  Courtney Shelton (c), Danielle Mathieu, Sabina Welcher, Sam Welcher, Vicki Booth, Natalie Johnson, Kelsey Carroll, Nicole Clewer,
Kate Young, Taylor Giedd, Becca Marion
Non-starters:  Katie Fluegel, Tiphanie Truax, Katie Fluegel, MacKenzie Kelling, Maggie Blackburn, Kelsey Mathieu
Result:   8-0 final; 7-0 halftime                      Team Record:  7-4-6 overall; 3-0-2 NIC-9
After the previous night's defeat and a message from their captains on the bus ride down, the ladies were ready to face NIC-9 conference rivals
Rockford East.  The result was a much needed boost in spirits after a frustrating night previous and help to give everyone some much needed time on
the field and goal.  With 20 minutes gone the score was already 5-0 and the half ended with 7th goal, meaning the second half would now be only 20
minutes long.  The last goal was reserved for goalkeeper Courtney Shelton as she took the field, after scores from Kate Young (3), Natalie Johnson,
Kelsey Carroll, Tiphanie Truax , and Ana Hayes.  Nice win ladies!  Now let's get focused for the final three NIC-9 battles of the season!!!  ~ Coach Eiss
