Thursday saw Hononegah travel to the "square field" of Jefferson High School. The unique field is equally as wide as it is long and makes for an interesting match typically, but the ladies spent little time establishing their dominance on the match. 5 goals in the opening 17 minutes proved to be enough to get everyone some much deserved time in this game. Goals scored by Taylor Giedd (2), Kate Young (2), Sabina Welcher (2), and Becca Marion. The Halftime score was 7-0, which meant that by rule, the total amount of time for the second half of the game would be cut in half to just 20 minutes. The ladies saved the last goal for goaleeper Courtney Shelton 10minutes in, and that capped off a nice night of scoring with a late goal by junior Danielle Mathieu for the ladies. Onto more stronger competition at the Boylan tournament. Nicely done ladies! ~ Coach Eiss

Date: Friday, April 20, 5:00pm @ Sportscore 2, Field 201 Starting Lineup: Kelsey Carroll (c), Taylor Scott, Sabina Welcher, Sam Welcher, Vicki Booth, Natalie Johnson, Kelsey Mathieu, Danielle Mathieu, Katie Fluegel, Kate Young, Taylor Giedd Non-starters: Becca Marion, Tiphanie Truax, Ana Hayes, MacKenzie Kelling, Maggie Blackburn, Nicki Clewer Result: 1-1 (2OT) final; 0-0 halftime -- [3-1 in PK Shootout] Team Record: 4-0-4 overall; 2-0-2 (NIC-9) The opening match of the Boylan tournament was a tough battle versus Hoffman Estates Conant saw the Lady Indians score in the second half and miss narrowly on the game winner in Overtime. Score was provided by two junior midfielders: a nice service from Danielle Mathieu to Katie Fluegel for the goal. Amazing work from backup keeper and captain Kelsey Carroll! The overtime penalty kicks were spot on with strikes from Danielle Mathieu, Taylor Giedd, and Becca Marion. ~ Coach Eiss

Date: Saturday, April 21, 9:30pm @ Sportscore 2, Field 211 Starting Lineup: Kelsey Carroll (c), Taylor Scott, Sabina Welcher, Sam Welcher, Vicki Booth, Natalie Johnson, Kelsey Mathieu, Danielle Mathieu, Ana Hayes, Kate Young, Taylor Giedd Non-starters: Becca Marion, Tiphanie Truax, Katie Fluegel, MacKenzie Kelling, Maggie Blackburn, Nicki Clewer Result: 0-3 final; 0-1 halftime Team Record: 4-1-4 overall; 2-0-2 (NIC-9) Second game of the Boylan Tournament was against Fox Valley opponent Algonquin Jacobs. After sorting out the first 20 minutes, the ladies began to dominate this match, putting attack after attack together, but never seeming to find the net. Haltime score 0-1. The opportunity to take advantage of the wind led to the introduction of a 3 forward lineup. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we tried the goals would never come. Instead two counter attacking goals were put away against us and our first loss of 2007 was in the books. A frustrating game that was will serve as a reminder in the next weeks ahead. Girls played very well, but unfortunately it was not enough. ~ Coach Eiss

Date: Saturday, April 21, Noon @ Sportscore 2, Field 213 Starting Lineup: Kelsey Carroll (c), Taylor Scott, Sabina Welcher, Sam Welcher, Vicki Booth, Natalie Johnson, Kelsey Mathieu, Danielle Mathieu, Kate Young, Taylor Giedd, Becca Marion Non-starters: Katie Fluegel, Tiphanie Truax, Katie Fluegel, MacKenzie Kelling, Maggie Blackburn, Nicki Clewer Result: 2-2 final; 1-0 halftime Team Record: 4-1-5 overall; 2-0-2 (NIC-9) Final matchup of the Boylan Tournament was against Milwaukeer Pius XI, who have always posed a problem. The ladies consistantly played better, regardless of results, from the opening game of the tournament until the last. This game would be their best. Commanding play from the whistle, the ladies took to the attack immediately and continued to move the ball extremely well. A goal off a deadball from as service by sophomore Sam Welcher that eventually found freshmen Nicki Clewer opened up the scoring late in the first half. The second half was against the wind but still the ladies continued to press goalward. The 2nd goal was secured by junior Kate Young at the halfway point afer a beautiful build up of play down the right flank. Pius pulled one back off a deadball about 5 minutes later, and with 30 seconds remaining on the clock, tied it up on a goal off a long throw-in. 30 seconds!!! As I said to the girls, "the soccer gods just don't want us to win this weekend!". Two five minute overtimes proved fruitless for either side and Pius took the ensuing penalty kick shootout 5-4... goals from Tiphanie Truax, Becca Marion, Danielle Mathieu, and Ana Hayes. Hats off to our amazing captain and backup keeper Kelsey Carroll for her determination in the net all weekend!!! Great job ladies! ~ Coach Eiss
