We
hope to add video clips to our site in the very near future - once
we can locate a digital video camera! In the meantime, we've had
to content ourselves with providing the script of this communicative
exchange: )
Video
Script:
Child
enters the kitchen, where Dad is pouring himself a glass of juice.
Dad:
Hey there, buddy! I am drinking
juice. It's hot out. I'm thirsty. I want some
juice. This is red juice. It's cold. Feel.
Cold juice.
Child
imitates: Cold.
Dad:
Yes.
Cold, red juice.
Child:
Cold
juice.
Dad:
Do
you want juice?
Child
nods.
Dad
waits, and places a finger to his mouth to indicate he's expecting a
spoken response.
Child:
Juice.
Dad
holds up three fingers, tapping each finger in turn, a cue that he
wants a response of at least three words.
Child:
I
want juice.
Dad
pours juice in a glass: I
am pouring juice. I am pouring juice for you. Uh-oh,
some spilled. It spilled right here. Let's clean it
up. Clean up, clean up.
Child,
helping to wipe up juice: Clean
up!
Dad
hands the glass of juice to the child, but doesn't let go of the
glass until child says: Thank
you.
Child
takes the glass, drinks the juice and hands it back to his dad, with
a longing expression.
Dad:
You
want more juice?
Child
nods.
Dad
waits.
Child:
More
juice, please.
Dad:
Okay!
More juice. You drink more juice!
