Intro & Abbreviations

This is where Pete keeps resources for games played on home video game consoles like the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and the Sony Playstation (PS). Most, but not all, are Role-Playing Games (RPGs). The Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Color (GBC), and Game Boy Advance (GBA) — although handheld and not technically consoles — are covered as well.

Other abbreviations used on this page include:

The Files

The files provided here are only for assisting people who legally own or are renting a game:

Most of the links after this point are to external sites. [external links nearby]

More information on all of these games, and many many others, is at the GameFAQs.com site.

The Consoles

Release Dates

Most of my information about upcoming releases is from "Game Informer" magazine, so you can probably do better on your own. I use the most recent information that I have available, including dates posted in stores. But in practice, it seems that only Square seems to stick to their announced release dates. Feels like everybody else slips with no warning. It's strange when the strategy guide is out but the game isn't.

Because I sometimes don't update this page for a long time, here are links to some sites that are actively maintained:

Where to Buy

Here is a list of places to buy used PS (and often other consoles) games in Orange & Riverside counties in California. Their websites are sometimes useful for news or release dates:

Playstation games

Why PS

I went and got a Playstation when Final Fantasy VII (FF7) was released, way back around November 1997. Other RPGs on the PS that I heard good things about at the time were Wild Arms, Vandal Hearts, Persona, and Suikoden. And I'll let you guess which one I heard bad things about… (But I bought it anyway!)
Back then, the PS had been out for a while, and definitely seemed to have the best RPGs available for a then-current console. Time has only proven me right, except for individual titles like "Eternal Arcadia" on other platforms not well-known for RPGs. In the next generation that started appearing in 2001, the rush to faster processors and better graphics in the Xbox, GC and PS2 seems to have left my favorite genre of TBC RPGs mostly behind; except for the PS2…

What Pete Has

Here's a list of the PS games that I own, mostly RPGs. Links from company names are to external sites. Any known issues with playing PS games on the PS2 are also shown, from the FAQ found at GameFAQs.com. The list is roughly in chronological order of acquisition:

Don't Want

Games that I won't own or play or buy, because I don't like being forced to mash buttons as fast as possible or make precise jumps. And with a little kid underfoot, it's too easy to make a mistake or lose your concentration, and lose the game. Most of these are here just to remind me not to buy a game or the guide for it.

Pete doesn't like these
