This is to supplement the FAQ for Aquanaut's Holiday on the Sony Playstation (PSX) written by Jeezus (rufus_ki[AT}hotmail{DOT)com) that I found at www.gamefaqs.com. His FAQ (more of an explanation than an FAQ) was apparently for the Japanese version, which is slightly different from the English one. Since I only have the English one, I can't guess at exactly how the Japanese version looks or acts, but there are a few things I can state: Known differences between English and Japanese versions: 1. No voice in the English version. There is a voice entry in the Staff listing when you get all 120 fish at the reef, but I heard no voices during my play of the game. 2. Staff listing is in English. 3. Don't remember seeing a beaver during the Present game. The ET that Jeezus refers to must be the flying saucer that's the very last "fish" in the Present game. The Present Game How to get it: Attract all 120 types of fish to your reef. When the red/pink bar fills completely, the screen will blank, and you will be told to save your game. Do so, and the PSX will restart. At the New/Load screen, the PSX will read your saved game and eventually show a third option: Present. What to do: When you select Present, the controls for that part of the game will be displayed. Movement is NOT like the regular game, and I don't know if the "specials" are still out there. I did have something strange happen once where switching to one of the whales suddenly forced my position away from the Port. Note that "Present" was probably "Omake" in the Japanese version, giving me another translation of the word for my H games FAQ. Stuff for the Regular game 1. Buoys (points) move slightly after release, so they may not be exactly where you want them to be. 2. Buoys also disappear from view if you leave the area and return. I've never been able to spot one unless I just jumped to it or placed it. 3. The reef that you build is west of the Port. You can see it on the map, at a very small scale. It confused me the first time, as I thought the game's video memory was damaged. 4. You can accidentally put a reef block at a buoy location, causing your sub to be trapped there if you jump to it. To fix this, remove the blocks near the buoy, jump to it, then place another buoy outside the reef building area, and finally replace the blocks. 5. You get "credit" for reef blocks, and fill in the map, only if you travel around the map at less than full speed, AND close enough to the bottom to see it. Zipping around through open water gets you nothing except the edges of the map. Also, after the first bounce, speed is greatly reduced, and the bounces are direct reverses. So, leaving the game on for a while will get you almost nothing. 6. Using the info in Jeezus' FAQ, I was able to get all the fish and see the Present game after about 18 hours of play. Most of this was just traveling near the bottom to cover the map, and stopping only when I spotted something really interesting. Specials: I saw the "Killer Fish", but I think its really a giant Ceolacanth (prehistoric fish). It also starts moving once you bump into it! I didn't see many of the special things others have mentioned, and I wouldn't want to spoil them for anyone else anyway. But I can confirm the "Great Wall of China" (the one I saw was bronze color, and had a break in the wall), and 4 large pillars with stains or holes on the sides. Other people mention seeing a shipwreck, a face (probably like the one supposed to be on Mars), a clear sphere with another one inside, an aqueduct, three rocks in a triangle, a hole down that goes a LONG time before it ends, a fossilized fish in a green plant, a long trench. There are several "lost cities". If you think you've seen it all, keep going towards the edge of the map, and more will appear until you finally reach the edge of the water. This is not your usual Playstation game. There is nothing to shoot, grab, or destroy, and no score besides the fish at the reef. I found the surf and music at the reef screen to be sleep-inducing.
