Rainforest Levels

Pre-instructional:
TSW sing �4 Layers of the Rainforest.�

There are four layers of the rainforest.
         4 Layers!

Forest floor (crouch down), under story (bend over), canopy (stand up and put hands over head), emergent (stand on tiptoes).

Procedure 1:
a. TTW put a KWL chart on the board.
b. TSW tell what they know and what they want to know.
c. TTW write all answers on the chart.

Procedure 2:
a. TSW predict what happens in The Magic School Bus in the Rain Forest by Joanna Cole
b. TTW read the story.
c.  TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Procedure 3:
a. TTW give each student a worksheet on the layers of the rainforest.
b. TSW glue the animals and plants that belong to the 4 layers of the rainforest.

     

People of the Rainforest

Pre-instructional:

Procedure 1:
a. TSW predict what happens in And it Rained by Ellen Raskin
b. TTW read the story.
c.  TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Procedure 2:
a. TTW tell the students facts about people who live in the rainforest.
b. TSW tell what they have learned about the people of the rainforest.
c. TTW write the student�s answer on the board.

Procedure 3:
a. TSW draw a picture of the rainforest village and what their house would look like.
b. TTW display the students work.
