                                              Butterflies and Frogs


Pre-instructional:
TSW sing �4 Layers of the Rainforest.�

Procedure 1:
a. TSW predict what happens in The Butterfly Seed by Mary Watson.
b. TTW read the story.
c.  TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Procedure 2:
a. TTW tell the students facts about butterflies.
b. TSW tell what they have learned about butterflies.

Procedure 3:
a. TTW give each student a pattern of a butterfly.
b. TSW use pattern blocks to fill the butterfly pattern.
c. TSW tell how many they used of each block.
d. TSW graph how many they used of each shape.

Procedure 4:
a. TTW give each student a pattern of a butterfly.
b. TTW give each student several different colors of tissue paper.
c. TSW cut off small piece and glue them on the butterfly.

Procedure 5:
a. TTW give each student a pattern to make butterfly sunglasses.
b. TSW color and cutout the pattern.
c. TTW punch holes on both sides of the glasses.
d. TTW put string through each hole; and tie it to the student�s head.

Frogs

Pre-instructional:
TSW sing �4 Layers of the Rainforest.�

TSW sing �Little Froggy.�
(�I�m a Little Teapot�)

See the little froggy swimming in the pool.
The waters great it is nice and cool.
When he gets all cleaned up out he�ll hop.
Squeaky clean from bottom to top.
See the little froggy on the lily pad trying to catch flies.
She�s getting sad.
When she catches one, she�ll gobble it up.
Back in the water she�ll go Kerplop!


Procedure 1:
a. TSW predict what happens in Frog Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta
b. TTW read the story.
c.  TSW answer comprehension questions about the story.

Procedure 2:
a. TTW tell the students facts about frogs.
b. TSW tell what they have learned about frogs.

Procedure 3:
a. TTW give each students a paper plate, pattern of the frog�s eye�s, tongue, feet,       
     and hands.
b. TSW paint the paper plate green.
c. TSW color, cutout, and glue the frog�s body parts on the plate.
d. TTW display the student�s work.

Procedure 4:
a. TSW each bring a toilet paper role from home.
b. TSW cover the roll with green paper.
c. TTW give each student a pattern of a frog�s eyes, head, legs, arms, and spots.
d. TSW color and cutout the pattern pieces.
e. TSW glue them on the toilet tissue roll to make  a frog.
