Craig, father (name unknown) born in Kentucky 1810-1830? according to the 1900 census for Henry Malvern Craig; mother (name unknown) born in Indiana. One of their children:

Henry M. Craig, b. Jan. 1852 Indiana, d. ca. 1920, Chicago. Married Louisa F. Patton, b. June 4, 1856, LaPorte, Indiana (she was the daughter of Davidson Patton, b. 1813, North Carolina, and Henrietta Knap, b. 1824, Upper Canada). Their children:

At the 1900 census, Henry and Louisa and family were living between Wabash and Michigan Avenues, Lake Township (Englewood) city of Chicago.

Vernon Patton Craig (b. Aug. 4, 1884, IL, d. 1937 Hawthorne, CA) married Vivian Viola Pritchett, b. June 26, 1898 (St. Louis?), d. Sept. 19, 1985, Susanville, CA. Their children:

Their son:

I've recently learned from my uncle that the M. stands for MALVERN. I've checked all the surname lists I can find, but no Malvern. There's an English spa named Malvern and the only American reference I can find is a Malvern Hill on Virginia's peninsula, site of a Civil War battle - I suspect that hill was named after SOMEBODY. I'm hoping 'Malvern' will be the key to further discovery - If it rings any bells with anybody, I'd be pleased to know.

Collateral names: Patton, Pritchett, Cooper, Jordan, Lynch, Sims, Beckman, Gessler.

Descendants of James Craig and Joanna Ure

After receiving William and Maria Craig's marriage certificate through the Scots Origins site, I discovered their parents' names. A subsequent search yielded the marriage certificate of James and Joanna (Ure) Craig, which, unfortunately did not contain their ages or any information about their parents. I also found the death certificate for James and Joanna's son James, who died of hydrocephalus at age 3, and the birth certificates of William and Maria's oldest sons, William and James.

For a photograph of William, Maria, and their children the mid-1890's, go to http://members.bigfoot.com/~grybo/genea/craig

(Note: Maria, sometimes spelled Mirie, is pronounced like Mariah).
