My line is the same as the first listing about "Pleasant Craig". "Pleasant Craig" and my gggrandfather, Elijah Craig, Sr., were brothers.

I have collected the names of hundreds of descendants of the Craigs who settled in Western NC. Much of it has been just as I have indicated, collected. therfore much of it has not been documented. In the process, I found that someone had already done extensive research on this line of Craigs and I did not see the need to till the same soil again. I am wating for her to publish her book. We have shared information but she has done most of the work of documenting. She has evidence that William Craig Sr. married a Christian ______? lived in VA, came to NC, and settled in what is now Caldwell Co., NC. To aid in the search I feel that I can give names of the first three generations and not infringe on her work.

NOTES: I have a story that was published in the Fredonia Daily Herald dated October 11, 1940, that gives a fairly good look into the Craigs and others who migrated from Fayette Co., IL, to Wilson Co., KS, in 1859. I posted this to the list earlier this year, but of particular Craig interest is this:

"In this little group of early settlers were also Jerome's grandparents, Windsor P. Craig, a Methodist preacher and circuit rider, and his wife Rachel E. Craig, who is said to have taught the first school in Wilson County in her own home on the place now owned by Sam Neuenschwander. A number of other families whose names are familiar to residents of Wilson County were included in the little group that came to Kansas at that time. Some of those names are Bean, Clinesmith, Connor, Michaels, Shafer, Shoop, Williams and perhaps others."
