GIRLGUIDING ROUNDHAY LEEDS
Where Are We ?
Situated in North East Leeds this district covers the three churches of St Andrews, St Edmunds and Lidgett Park.
Guiding is alive and well in Roundhay with 4 Rainbow units, 8 Brownie packs, 6 Guide units and a Ranger unit.
What's Our Aim ?
The aim is to provide any girl who wants it with the opportunity to take part in guiding regardless of background. To find out more about individual sections click on the links above.
What do we do ?
For some of the activities the girls have been enjoying in their weekly meetings see the Meeting Ideas page. As well as this, in recent years girls from Roundhay have enjoyed a Royal Armouries sleepover, camped at Robin Hole at the district Brownie Thing and taken part inThe Rainbow Sparkle, a morning of games and crafts enjoyed by 40 girls. The District has also celebrated World Thinking Day, one year with an afternoon supporting Montserrat This year we celebrated Thinking Day with a campfire for all ages.
Girls in the district also join in county events. Recently some of the guides went to Spring Alive. This was the Leeds County Camp where there were a variety of on and off site activities and evening entertainment. Later this year the district will be camping at the 2008 County Camp. Brownies and Guides had separate water activities days at Pugneys Country Park outside Wakefield where they were able to have a go at sailing, canoeing and pedaloes for the Brownies and also kayaking and windsurfing for the Guides. Some of the older Guides attended a Baden Powell Adventure on a narrowboat.
Recruiting new leaders
In order to provide these opportunities we rely on volunteers and we are currently looking to increase our leadership team. All help is welcomed, whether it is each week with unit meetings, helping as part of a rota once a month or once a term, coming away for a weeks camp or lending your skills for a particular activity.
