Thinking Day Revels February 2005
All units in the district gathered together to celebrate World Thinking Day. The district have decided to support the North East England Alliouagana project for Guiding in Montserrat whose headquarters was destroyed in 2004 by a volcanic eruption followed by severe flooding.
For our fun session we separated off with the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides each doing activities aimed at their age group and then coming together for some singing at the end of the afternoon.
On offer were a range of crafts games and other activities which saw the rainbows trying Aboriginal art, making volcanoes from ice cream cones, jelly, ice-cream and sweets, to finding out about St Patrick linked to the Irish influences on Montserrat.
The brownies had more activities to try - Hawaiian leis, learning to write in the Cyrillic alphabet, bead men, making Miss Goosie puppets, boomerang making to name but a few and the guides made tropical smoothies, Japanese bead dolls , Jamaican woven fish, as well as trying their hand at Cyrillic writing.
The afternoon raised£175 towards the appeal funds as well as the foreign coins individual units had collected.
