Houseparty 2003
The CU weekend away
The end of week 6 of term1 saw over 150 people from WarwickCU travel as far as they could without breakin the Welsh border to the infamous CU Houseparty. This was my 4th visit to Quinta Hall in the remote land of Shropshire and did it disappoint? Of course not!!
Friday night
Friday played host to perhaps the most eagerly awaited night of the year. Hype had grown and grown about the return of the Jaffa Cake Game and this year saw even more players rising to the mighty challenge with enormous success. Jon Rogers and Teacher Paul naturally led proceedings and were well into the game as always. Joining them came a galant Steve Ranford of the House of the Lord, only for myself to manage to project a jaffa over his head and into the experienced jaw of Mr Rogers. Congratulations to Fi, Naomi and Sarah for their display of girls can play this too and to all our other players, especially of course the Jaffa Cake King, Nathan Gunn! But this years star had to by Revelation Presidente TimmyG, shooting a jaffa half the length of the dining hall onto Teacher Paul's forehead cries of "that has to be a new record" rang out clear and strong across the audience. Well played that man!

Now well into the spirit of the houseparty TimmyG then led us in some crazy games, the photos say it all!

The crazy (but slightly less energetic games continued well into the night and I locked up the boy's bedrooms at a cool time of 2.30pm)
Saturday
The houseparty had 4 main meetings and I'd just like to take the opportunity to say thanks to the band who played at all 4 as well as the Saturday evening celebration pretty much off the cuff. Much appreciated lads.

Outside of the main meetings and the following small groups, where we looked at Philippians together and learnt about standing firm in God's gospel as our number one priority, even above our own comfort and welfare, there was of course much fun to be had. I took the annual walk to Wales over the bridge, under the tunnel and over the viaduct. It all looked very different without 2002's pouring rain, but I'm sure that as I crossed the bridge to Wales it started to drizzle!?! On returning I discovered that Mr Whitley had had a lot of fun breaking things, but you can ask him about that sometime.

The evening took 2 strands with an evening celebration of thanks to God saw us praying for one another and also thinking about how we can always show love to one another practically. Before that we were treated by the people at Quinta to a firework and bonfire display. For anyone who was there, and is wondering, the strange thing at the back of the display we reckon was a volcano not a shuttlecock.

Night descended on the houseparty once again. And once again the games and discussions went on into the small hours, then the smaller hours, then the very small hours......  don't ask when I got to bed!
Sunday
Before we managed to depart, the cooks took revenge on a few people that, to be fair to the cooks, deserved it. A series of gross chef's challenges saw a very entertaining lunchtime, but alas it was time to return to the world of Warwick Uni. Having taken the mini-bus to the houseparty I was able to get the coach back to beloved Earlsdon and a good journey it was too. God can answer prayers about traffic!
