Canada - Week 2
The West family venture
Day 7

Back on the road, the Trans-Canada Highway, again and onto Revelstove where we've camped up at
Canyon Hot Springs.

Yep that's it, this is what it looked like...
Day 8

What's the definition of pain? Well I used to say it was a one-armed Ethiopian hanging off a cliff with itching balls, but now I think I'll vote for getting sunburnt whitewater rafting for 22km and then dipping your wounds in a 40 degrees celcius hot spring fed pool.
That pretty much was the story of the day. In the morning we rafted the whitewater rapids of the Illecillewaet River with the help of our cheery guide Blane. In the afternoon we drove up to Roger's Pass which is a pass through the Glacier mountains and the down to look at the river we'd rafted. in the evening we relaxed in the mineral pools created by the waters of the Canyon hot springs.
Day 9

Today we drove through Glacier National Park before arriving in Banff National Park. In doing so we crossed into the Rockies, crossed over time zones and crossed over provinces from British Columbia to Alberta. We camped for the night in the Lake Louise overflow campground, although it is more of a clearing in the trees with a dusty floor. At least we have the comforts of an RV. Not exactly creature comforts but better than a tent right now.
Day 10

On the day that British Columbia equalled its record for the longest dry spell in its recorded history it rained on us! We were travelling through Alberta today though so whether it rained on mainland BC we just dont know.
Fortunately the rainclouds didn't catch up with us until after we'd seen some of the most beautiful scenery ever and walked on an amazing glacier courtesy of a
snocoach with the hugest wheels. The snocoach was kind of like bus with 6 tractor wheels designed for glacial driving (12 psi for the techies out there)
Day 11

Jon and I reached the summit of a mountain. Honest. Known as Whistlers Mountain due to the whistling noise made by the wildlife up it. Ok so, truth be told, although we did reach the summit we only walked up the final 200m elevation as the
Jasper Tramway took us that rest but at least we put in the effort to make it unlike some nameless people; Terry West.
Having descended we managed to catch the last boat on Maligne Island to the world famous Spirit Island. Photos from this island are found all over the world and in every postcard rack we looked at in Canada!
Day 12

Much of the day was spent travelling between the towns of Jasper and Banff. Then, as we did in Jasper the night before, we walked around the main street of small shops in Banff during the evening. Oh yeah and we ate steak dinners again too. The other similarity was mums ability to buy Russ teddy bears at cheap prices.
