| Foolish is a very good word for the waste of a nice old building. When people allow a perfectly good building to fall into ruin, it's not only foolish, careless, and wasteful, but represents a shameful disregard for heritage. Many people will say that it doesn't make good sense, to spend more money fixing an old building than you would to build a new one. In some cases this might be true, but if the building is of any historical or sentimental value, either to a person or a community, this should be more than enough reason to spend some extra time and money to preserve it. But such please fall on deaf ears in this day and age; in most places today, people don't think twice about tearing a building down to build a new one, or worse, tearing it down simply to get rid of it. It's a foolish, wasteful thing, and someday people will realize too late that they should have tried harder to preserve their heritage buildings. But enough ranting - now let's look at some old buildings. This site focuses on buildings which have been abandoned for anywhere from a few years, to several decades or more. All of these are (or were) located in central of southeastern New Brunswick, Canada. Most buildings shown here are ones I photographed recently, but I will eventually add older photos from my collection including some buildings which are no longer standing. Some pages will also include links to a video tour of that particular building (hosted by Youtube). |

| Building Condition Ratings 5/5 - Excellent No repairs needed, ready to use 4/5 - Good Needs a few minor repairs, such as paint or siding, wallpaper, etc. 3/5 - Fair Considerable repairs needed, including cosmetic and/or structural, repairs may outweigh the cost of a whole new building. 2/5 - Poor In an major state of disrepair, including sagging or collapsing ceilings and/or floors. May be unsafe to enter. Repair is highly unlikely unless someone really wanted to save it. 1/5 - Very poor Near ruins, some areas partially or fully collapsed. Safe entry is impossible. Saving such a structure would require that most, if not all of it, be rebuilt with all-new materials. Why I don't give exact locations of some buildings You'll notice that I don't give exact locations of these old buildings. This is because many of these buildings are in remote locations, where they may be vulnerable to vandals. If you want to know where a building is, you'll have to contact me and let me know your intentions. I don't mind giving that info to fellow enthusiasts who just want to explore or take photographs, but I don't want someone going there to trash the place or steal things.
