| This huge, ornate old hotel is one of the largest, oldest, and most historic buildings in the village of Petitcodiac, but it certainly doesn't look like anyone cares much about it. The building has been shamefully neglected and left to fall into ruins, and unless someone acts soon, there won't be anything left to save. The rear, two-storie section of the building is now starting to collapse, and the huge three-storie front section isn't faring much better. It looks like the most recent repairs - probably made 30 years ago - were only made to the front section; the rear half has obviously been neglected for much longer. During the winter months, it's not uncommon for people to seal off parts of large buildings to save on heating costs (you try heating a building this size, when the windchill is -40) - but this area was obviously denied far more than just heat. Without a decent roof or even a full set of window panes, it has been left wide open for the elements to do their damage. | ||||||||||||||||||

| The photo at the right shows just what the building looked like, in more prosperous times. At one point the building had two upper verandas; this photo appears to have been taken before those were added. At the time I took my pictures, there was no sign of life in or around the building, but there was a ladder and a few tools laying around. Hopefully someone wasn't starting to tear the place down. More info to be added when I obtain it. |
