Old House #4
Location: Near Elgin, NB
Structure type: 2 1/2-Storie House
Condition: 2/5
Date Visited: Sep. 6, 2008
This old house has certainly seen better  days. It's been vacant since the late 1970's, and obviously no maintenance has been done since. It actually doesn't look too bad from the outside, but the inside is a different story. Almost every wall, floor, and ceiling is distorted in some way, some floors are quite weak, and there are large holes rotted through the upper ceiling.
One area of this house has had a most unusual modification; as you can see in one of the photos below, the owner actually knocked out one of the kitchen walls, so he could store his tractor inside! It might have kept the tractor dry, but it certainly didn't do the house much good.
Apart from that, there really isn't anything too special to point out, so I'll just let you browse the remaining photos.
A link to a video tour, shot in 2000, is below. If you compare it with these pictures, you can see how much this house has deteriorated in the last eight years.
I'm not sure what I'd rather look at.... the house,
or the structures in front of it.
The kitchen. The door on the left leads to a small pantry.
I don't think this feature was in the blueprints. Upstairs
A stack of old shelves in the dark, creepy basement; from video shot in August 2000. Note the jars of preserves, which are probably well past their expiration date.
I guess this house isn't totally vacant....
