Having lost face in the 32-bit war with the ill-fated Saturn, Sega knew it had to save what was left of its tattered reputation with its new 128-bit console, the Dreamcast. Released late in 1998 in Japan, and then in the West almost a year later, the machine has underperformed in several territories (its only real success has been in the US) despite the fact that many top quality titles have been produced for the system.

UPDATE - Sega have confirmed that they are leaving the console market to become a third party publisher. Therefore, the Dreamcast is Sega's final machine. Production of the console will cease in early 2001, but games will continue to be published until the end of the year.

NOTE: Several of the games reviewed below are Japanese imported versions - therefore, they may not have been released in the West, and if they have, there may have been changes.
