In Final Fantasy XI, besides players itself, there are NPCs who live in the World of Vana'diel. NPC can be anyone from the shop keepers to a normal civilians in the Cities. Most of them are related to the main story in Final Fantasy XI. It is almost certain that the number of player characters is going to exceed that of NPCs by hundreds eventually.
