IT HAPPENED ON A BC FERRY
Why it was written: I wrote the story for an annual writing contest hosted by the local library. The rules were that the plot had to be centered around Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, a local picnic and camping area. The story won 3rd place in the junior category.

Plot: The story is based on a true incident, recorded on a family home movie, involving my dad and my sister (who's real name is NOT Penelope) that took place while our family was having a picnic at Porpoise Bay
Why it was written: I wrote the story for a "short story" writing contest hosted by www.amazing-kids.org.

Plot: A true story told to me by my Grandma about an almost disastrous dinner-party she once held. Though parts have been added to add more humor to the story, more details are true than made up.
Why it was written: I wrote it for the "Spooky Story" writing contest hosted by www.lego.com . The point of the contest was to write a story based on this picture.

Plot: A young girl and her father go on a strange and terrifying ride in a car that has a mind of its own.
Why it was written: It was written for another library contest. This time the story had to have the name "It happened at the Library Book sale." Unfortunately once I wrote it, the story was over twice the contest word limit. I figured the judges wouldn't notice. They did. So even though they really liked the story I couldn't officially win a prize. Writers, take note: Always heed the word limits!

Plot: Due to the theme of the story I had a difficult time thinking up a plot. At last, using some real people from my brothers' orchestra, I thought of a possible story. Unfortunately it had nothing to do with library. So I tied my orchestra story in with my library story and what I ended up with is this story of a boy called Mervin McDervish who has a merry musical mix-up.
Why it was written: For the annual library writing contest. The theme this year was the British Columbia ferries which are the only way for residents of our town to connect with the mainland. The story won 2nd place.

Plot: A true story about a couple riding the ferry over to the Sunshine Coast who notice a boat on board that looks suspiciously like their own.
THE MACHINE
(The original radio-play)
Why it was written: The Machine started out as a small book I had written at about age 10. Later I decided to turn it into a radio play and my brother and I wrote the script for it. Though it may be lacking in good writing, it's still good fun to read. See photos of the professors (Einstien on the left and Professor Brilliant on the right) here and here and photos of the Machine here and here (one of the them is a LEGO version.)

Plot: Two mad scientists have no sooner resurrected an old useless invention of theirs when an evil Dr., with the help of his robot butler, tries to steal it.

IT HAPPENED ON A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT
Why it was written: For the 2004 Sechelt Library "It Happened..." contest. It was the first time I have won first place at the contest

Plot: A  retelling of an episode from my family's 2001 British Columbia/Alberta road trip. It's a tale of tornados, terror and cows!
