Motorola SB 3100 & 4100 Modems
Another tip for connectivity, where the USB or NIC seems to be installed correctly,
the modem lights are steady, and the customer is pulling a 169.254.x.x ip address is
to check for a light on the back of the SB 3100 and 4100 modems.
This light will tell you if the modem detects a connection to the PC.
If it's on, you know that the patch cable and ethernet ports are good.
In addition, the SB 4100 has a standby button on the front of it.
If the customer does not have connectivity, and no lights are lit on the front of the modem,
have the customer press the standby button. This is like the Pipelock feature of the
Piperider modem: when the modem is in Standby mode.

The cause of the -16999 error, according to Microsoft
Is that when there are no E-Mails to download, into Outlook Express 5.0 for Macintosh you will receive this error.
POP Server returned an unexpected error � 16999
I have heard that the error may also be due to the following.
Outlook Express on a Macintosh doesn�t seem to be able to cope with downloading a large number of emails, or single emails that have large attachments.
Use the Webmail interface to delete some of the emails and try again.
