About
'Kill 'Em All.', 1983
MegaForce
|
| Megaforce Records originally released 'Kill
'Em All' on LP, Cassette and CD in 1983. Elektra released their version of the album in
1988. The 1988 version, however, included two bonustracks (Am I Evil?; Blitzkrieg) from
the original Garage Days Revisited sessions. Metallica originally wanted to call the album
'Metal up your ass', but the guys from the record company didn't agree with that. Elektra
re-released it in 1991, but this time without the bonustracks. In 1995 Elektra digitally
remastered all tracks and re-released it again, also without the bonustracks.
Kill 'Em All was Metallica's first album. It is considered
a creative rebirth in heavy metal music in the late-70s. The album is completely in heavy
metal style and the tracks on the album contain a lot of long-winded guitar solos and
phantasmagorical lyrics. |

My opinion:
A great album! Some people may like songs like Enter Sandman and The
Memory Remains better then the speed-metal sound of Metallica's debut album, but for
me this album rocks. Don't let James' high voice scare you, the songs are very good, but
there isn't much variety, so don't listen to it too much. Hit The Lights opens
the album with speed, and Phantom Lord technically the best song on the album.
Jump In The Fire and The Four Horsemen both have kickass riffs and
great lyrics. The instrumental song (Anesthesia)... Pulling Teeth demonstrates
Burtons great talent. But the best track is probably the headbangers-anthem Whiplash.
Try to obtain some of the more recent live recordings of the songs on this album, believe
me, it kicks ass.
