The Black Album

About |
'Metallica (The Black Album)', 1991
Elektra
Released in 1991, 'Metallica' became quickly know as 'The
Black Album' because of its cover which is almost black. The band went on a tour to
promote the band. The tour, called Wherever I May Roam, as well as the album itself were
an instant hit, selling millions of copies and occupying the number
one spot on the Billboard charts for four weeks!!. Its still the biggest selling hard
rock/metal album of the 90's; with some 16 million copies sold in the US. This album
is considered the band's major breakthrough. The Japanese version featured 'So What' as a
bonus track btw... bet ya didn't knew that.

My opinion:
A very good album, but then again, it's Metallica, so what did you expect?
The songs on the Black album have more melody and are significantly shorter than those on
the previous albums. Enter Sandman and Sad But True are two of the more
known Metallica songs. The Unforgiven is a remarkable song, and especially live Of
Wolf And Man is very good. Nothing Else Matters is wonderfully composed,
making it a very special song. This album belongs in your collection, but it becomes
boring if you listen to it too much.
