One night, while she was in her hotel room in New York, there was a knock at the door. Thinking it was one of her many fans, who often found her hotel room and pleaded for autographs, she opened the door.
As it slowly swung open, she nearly screamed as she saw who it was.
"Obi-Wan?" she gasped.
He looked different. His eyes no longer had their sparkle, his braid was gone, and he looked tired.
"Obi-Wan?" she repeated, this time with a softer tone. She gazed gently at him, and saw a small, single tear run down his cheek. She lifted her hand to his face and brushed it away, looking at him empathetically.
"Obi-Wan, whats wrong?"
Suddenly, he pulled her close to him, embracing her tightly, as though he never wanted to let go. She held him just as tightly as she wondered why he had appeared there that night.
"I missed you." he said, placing a light kiss on her forhead.
Almost melting, she looked up into his eyes, which had once been so bright and curious. The change in him was almost too much for her to bear, and she asked him inside.
"How have you been?" she asked, hoping to find the cause of his obvious depression.
He looked at her, unable to answer, blinking away the water rushing to his eyes.
Seeing his agony, she tried to change the subject. "I see your braid is gone. You passed your trials?"
"Yes, I passed my trials."
"I bet Qui-Gon is proud of you."
This was the salt in the already stinging wound. He winced at the sound of his Master's name, and it was through that action that Sarah understood.
"What happened to him, Obi-Wan?"
"He's dead. We were settling a trade dispute on Naboo, and we encountered someone of the Sith. Qui-Gon was killed in combat."
"I'm so sorry..." she said sympathetically, placing her arm around his shoulders.
"The only thing I have left of him is his last request; that I train a boy he found on Tatooine. He is my Padawan now."
There was an awkward silence which lasted for an eternity. Suddenly, it was broken by a loud cry.
"Oh.." Sarah said, "..I'll be right back."
She stood up and walked into the bedroom. The crying was soon hushed, but Sarah did not return. Obi-Wan, curious to see what the racket was, walked into the doorway.
He saw Sarah sitting on the bed holding a small bundle. He looked puzzledly at her, and she motioned him to come to her. The bundle turned out not to be a bundle at all, but a baby.
"Isn't he beautiful?" she asked, whispering as to not disturb the infant.
"Quite," Obi-Wan responded, "Who's the father?"
Sarah giggled, "You are, silly."
This was not the answer he expected to hear. He looked at Sarah, almost beside himself.
"I..I..I am?" he stuttered.
Sarah just smiled and nodded.
"But how?" he asked.
"What do you mean HOW," she replied. "The same way every other dad gets to be a father.."
The two were then interrupted by another knock at the door. Sarah got up to go answer it, placing the tiny child in Obi-Wan's arms.
Sarah opened the door to 'speed-talker-Jim', who, as soon as the door was ajar, began briefing her on the next morning's schedule.
"Jim," she interrupted, "hush for a second. You'll never guess who's here."
As if uninterested, Jim replied "Who?"
"Obi-Wan Kenobi, thats who."
"Really now?" he said, his interest picking up. "Well Where is he?"
Sarah motioned towards the bedroom.
"Moving a little fast aren't you?" Jim joked. "Anyways, I don't have much time to chat, chickapea, but I just thought I'd give you your itenerary for tomorrow."
He left having said that, leaving Sarah and Obi-Wan alone again to catch up on the events of the last year.
