Neither Time Nor Distance--Chapter Three

Chapter Three

"What kept you, Padawan?"

"I was...helping Sarah."

Qui-Gon noticed his bit of hesitance in answering, and extended his query.

"What was the problem."

"She was, um...stuck.."

"In what?"

Obi-Wan immediately blushed. Then Qui-Gon understood. He looked sternly at Obi-Wan, in the way a parent might stare down a lying child.

Stuttering, Obi-Wan answered his master. "I..I..In.."

"Say no more, Padawan. Tell me, do you have feelings for her?"

Obi-Wan hesitated. He wasn't sure how Qui-Gon would react if he told him how he felt about Sarah.

"Well, I..I..I suppose so, master, I..she...well..."

Seeing his uncomfort, Qui-Gon dropped the subject. It should be dealt with another time.

"So which one do you think would be best?" Sarah asked Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. She of course, was referring to which set of clothes they would prefer her to wear. Qui-Gon flipped through the small stack of photographs.

"I think the silver would do best." Qui-Gon said. "It is what your leaders wish you to wear, and I believe it would be best if you did as they asked."

"The Silver!? How many people out here actually wear stuff like this?"

"Not Many" Obi-Wan said, backing her.

"Nevertheless...It would be best if.."

"Ok," she interrupted defiantly, "I absolutely refuse to wear the silver. What is your second choice?"

Qui-Gon did not answer. She was too stubborn. As far as he was concerened, she could wear what she wanted, but he did warn her.

"Obi-Wan," Sarah called, as she ran down the hall towards him.

He turned to meet her, and she stopped just short of crashing into him. Their eyes met and locked. Sarah couldn't help but to stare. His eyes were so beautiful and intense.

She needed to break the silence. "Whats going to happen when we get to Coruscant?"

"I'm not sure. Most likely they're going to question you until you're sick."

She giggled. "What about you? Are you sticking around?"

"I'm not sure of that either. It depends, I suppose I will, but if the council requests Qui-Gon and I to go elsewhere, I'll have to leave you."

"Hmm. I hope that doesn't happen." She said flirtatiously as she stepped closer to him, and slid her arms around his waist. Then she whispered into his ear something that made his eyes widen and stepped back with a mischievous grin.

She turned around and walked away from him slowly, as if she were almost begging him to follow her. She exaggerated her hip-swaying, which was more than Obi-Wan could stand. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to kiss her. He ran to catch up with her.

When he did, she stopped. He stood behind her, and gently put his hands on her shoulders. He leaned close to her and began softly kissing her neck. She turned slowly around, touching her face with his.

"Kiss me." she whispered.

Their lips brushed softly and Obi-Wan gently pulled away.

"I'm not sure we should become this involved."

"Shhh." was her reply. Sarah slid her hands around to the back of his neck and pulled him closer, causing their lips to meet for the first time.
