Neither Time Nor Distance--Chapter Four

Chapter Four

The next afternoon, the ambassador and her two Jedi had arrived at their destination. Sarah had decided to wear the long crimson dress which had earlier helped her coquetry with Obi-Wan.

During their reception, Sarah had been welcomed graciously by what seemed like every living soul in the galaxy. With the confusion, she was separated from Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and assumed that they had reported to the Jedi Council.

~.~

Two weeks past and Sarah had not seen a trace of Obi-Wan since their coming. He had been watching her upon occasion, stopping in to listen to her lectures, but due to her vast popularity, he was always unable to make contact with her.

One afternoon, Sarah was giving yet another lecture to eduactors of the Republic about politics and other government habits, when she noticed a familiar figure walk into the dimly lit room. She finished her lecture hurriedly with great anticipation, and rushed through the questioning session.

Upon its completion, she shook hands with her interviewers and made her way to the back of the auditorium to confont her distraction.

"Obi-Wan?"

"Sarah," he answered with a smile.

The two embraced, touching eachother for the first time in what seemed like years.

"I missed you," she said, "where have you been?"

"Trying to get hold of you."

"What do you mean?"

"You've been so busy, I've been trying for weeks to get in contact with you. Every time I try to get a moment to speak to you, you're giving a lecture or off with a senator or governor. I guess the question should be where have you been?"

Sarah, appauled by his sudden frustration responded only with a semi-confused glare. Why was he so upset?

"Look," he said, "If you don't want to see me anymore, I'll understand..."

She interrupted him with an annoyed "Obi-Wan", but was only re-interrupted by his attempt to finish his complaint.

"Obi-Wan, Listen!" she snapped. He looked at her in surprise. "I've been busy, yes, but just because we haven't seen eachother in two weeks doesn't mean that I don't like you. I didn't even know you were still around. For all I knew, you could have been anywhere in the universe doing Jedi stuff."

"You wouldn't even respond to my messages, Sarah.."

"What messages?"

"The ones I sent for you every day."

"I never got any messages."

"Oh Force, Sarah," he said vexed, "you really expect me to believe that subterfuge?"

She started to defend herself, when Obi-Wan interrupted yet again.

"You made me believe we had something, Sarah. But I see now that everything we shared meant nothing." He had to pause a moment to shush her defense, but resumed just as harshly. "I don't want to see you again, Sarah. Ever."

With that said, he turned around to leave the tear soaked ambassador.
