Blame Jenova
History: Okay, so maybe this wasn't exactly the most intelligent thing I've ever written...but hey, at least it was patriotic! This all originated from a teaser I wrote at the end of Chapter 9 of "How to Write an Aeris Resurrection Fic" for the next part. At the time I'd had only the vaguest ideas of the approach I would use for Chapter 10, and I had originally thought that it would have focussed more heavily on blaming all of Sephiroth's sins on Jenova than it did. For some strange reason, I found the line "Blame Jenova" funny, because it sounded like "Blame Canada" from the South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut movie...and somehow that turned into a songfic parody. I will never understand how my mind works.
It marked a dark day in history, because I had hitherto vowed to never, ever do a songfic. Sure, my work up to date had never been very cerebral, but I would not stoop to writing one of those lame songfic parodies, especially one about a song from South Park. They were only a notch above scriptfics and lemons; I was above all that, I told myself arrogantly. I had also vowed to never do poetry, partly because I loathe it and partly because I can't make words rhyme for my life. But I had read a few decent songfics, giving the genre some measure of respectability, and this fic was fun and easy to write. At this rate, it's only a matter a time before I write a "Cloud and co. go to high school" AU or a Mary-Sue.
The fic is sort of a spin-off of "How to Write an ARF," so that's why some of the jokes are rehashed, and why Prudence makes an appearance. No, it has nothing whatsoever to do with my total lack of originality; you're just crazy!
