Hong Kong has always been able to build on its economic strengths and develop its own niches in business. Manufacturing Industry is an important sector of Hong Kong economy. In the past few decades, manufacturing industry highly contributed to the Hong Kong economic growth. With the increasing importance of tertiary industry and moving out of factories by employers, manufacturing industry no longer plays the most important role for Hong Kong economy. Also the amount of people employed in it have been decreasing continuously.     In June 2000, there are over about 240,000 people engaged in Manufacturing Industry, below are a table, map, and chart showing number of people engaged in different districts.
 

  The chart showed above figures out that the districts' manufacturing industries that have most people engaged in including Kwun Tong, Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan,it is because those three districts are designed as industrial districts by Hong Kong government. Besides,, some districts include fewer people engaged in such as North District, Wan Chai , Sai Kung etc. Due to the government's town planning, North District is designated for residential area, and Wan Chai is a mixed zone which include residential and business sectors.
