First Quarter 2004 Meeting -- Lair No. 3

The Lair No. 3 Mass Challenge for 2004 was to identify the world's biggest loser -- only dead men allowed. On March 6, 2004, a total of eleven entries were considered at the Moose Home.

Jim Barr, in abstentia, dragged the name of King George VI of the United Kingdom through the mud. Charles George, of Lair No. 1, made his in abstentia case for Nero. Karl Halter argued that Harold Stassen, a nine-time loser of the US Presidential race, takes the cake. Ray Hull suggested the Nikolai Tesla was the world's biggest loser, having done so much and been recognized so little. Dan Krewson donned a costume and guitar and sang "The Lament of Esau." Peter Marino was able to shock the thoroughly-jaded Rascals with the claim that the biggest loser in the history of the world was Mahatma Gandhi. Dan Morrison submitted King George III of the United Kingdom as the world's greatest loser, for having lost the planet Georgium Sidus (Uranus) that had been named for him. Michael Moscherosch became strangely biblical and argued that Esau should take the prize. Dan Mundy made the case for Dr. Samuel Mudd, the unfortunate fellow who set the broken leg of the traitor and coward John Wilkes Booth. Alan Surdyke presented Leonard Tose, former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles who lost everything to booze and gambling. Tim Tracey argued that the 1919 Chicago White Sox qualify as the world's biggest losers for having thrown the series to receive a payoff from gamblers.

Winner of the J.Z.Landgraf prize was Peter Marino. The runner-up, taking the Last Cigar Tray, was Dan Krewson.
