Chris by hisself on roof of Melbourne hotel: Aiming to win second prize - a book - in a fundraising dinner raffle attended by its author, instead we ended up with the prize of a night at a hotel some few hundred yards from my home.  We found that it would cover other hotels in the same chain, so decided to go to Melbourne. I’d been there years back (by train in a sleeper) for a weekend to see a particular travelling art exhibition by Judy Chicago in the Exhibition Building and stayed in the YWCA only a few blocks away. Not sure about Chris.
The hotel overlooked Flagstaff Gardens, a pleasant & historic park.  It is on the northern edge of the Melbourne CBD, not far from some modern court buildings & also a tram line. Trying to luxuriate in the unaccustomed poshness, we went up to the rooftop gym with sauna & swimming pool. Alas, we’d not brought swimming costumes, so had to content ourselves with admiring the view from the terrace & reclining on its outdoor lounges.
