Bike Non-Parking: Much experience in bushwalking & other pursuits gave Chris a severely minimal, practical approach to clothing & supplies. (The Dag-o-meter was not deemed relevant to such expeditions.) So I (a.k.a. native bearer) for food, water, sunscreen, &c was a valuable resource. The Sydney 2000 Olympics were promoted, among other things, as “The Green Games”. Some things — in general the short-term quick fixes — were done towards this ideal, but others like long-term provision of public transport for both the village site (new suburb) & sport/entertainment areas was poor. For example, existing substantial rail loops were ripped out & replaced by a single, badly aligned, dead-end spur. Even during its two weeks, facilities for some lower-impact sustainable transport were not well thought out. Alternative solutions were produced informally — in conjunction with a certain Australian casual attitude to regulations.
