Gang Violence
Gang is a group of individuals who share a common
identity and engage in illegal activities. Their main
society functions are simply carry out armed robbery,
extortion, drug sales, burglaries, car theft, and open fight
between factions for turf.
Why does social problem might exist?
Functionalist viewpoint would best fit because of gangs it
based on the society structure and live environment. Most
gangs tend to be composed of young people, mainly male, with
similar ethnic and racial backgrounds.
Most
gang members show their membership by distinctive
dress and behaviors, including handkerchiefs and shoelaces
of specific colors, jewelry, tattoos, jargon, and hand
gestures. They mark their territory and challenge other
gangs with spray-painted graffiti or gang symbols.
Gang membership offers kids status, acceptance, and
self-esteem they haven't found elsewhere. In poorer
communities, a breakdown of family and community structures
may leave kids more receptive to gang recruitment. However,
gangs can also form in affluent areas among kids who feel
alienated from friends and families.
Financial gain is a powerful motive for gang involvement,
especially for impoverished youths with poor education and
lack of access to decent jobs. The vast sums of money
available through the drug trade have increased the size of
gangs, both by recruitment and by longer retention of
members. Usually only a few adult gang members make large
sums of money. Aware that courts treat juveniles far more
leniently than adults, they shield themselves by using
juvenile gang members as everything from lookouts to gang
hit men . Drug trafficking makes traditional turf battles
bloodier by providing the money for sophisticated weaponry,
and it creates new sources of conflict as rival gangs fight
over lucrative drug territories…

role in the gang. Asian, black, Hispanic, white and
interracial gangs exist. There is a certain requirement as
in race or ethnicity to be apart of the gang. Chinese and
Vietnamese gangs appear to be oriented primarily toward
economic crimes, such as gambling, extortion, drug

likely to hates crimes and car theft.
To reduce gang
violence, family, school, and community should work together
to prevent kids join gangs. Parents and school advisors
alike are able to help discourage gang entry, and find a way
to bring those kids who have joined gangs back into the
society. Government should more effective crackdown on adult
gangs including ethnic groups crime. Someday gang violence
may be obsolete

can
leave children more receptive to gang recruitment.
Without
access to decent jobs and/or a poor education, the financial
gains that gangs offer are a powerful motive for membership.
The vast sums of money available through drug trade have
increased gang size by further recruitments and the
retention of existing members well into adulthood.
Race also plays a
huge role in gang composition and direction. Asian, Black,
Hispanic, and White gangs all exist.
Gangs hold definite
requirement for race and/or ethnicity to be a member.
Chinese and Vietnamese gangs appear to be oriented primarily
toward economic crimes, such as gambling, smuggling, and
drug trafficking. Black gangs tend more to murder,
robbery,
and prostitution. Hispanic gangs are more likely to be
involved in hates-crimes, forgery, and illegal immigration.
To help reduce gang violence, family, schools,
and the local
community must focus on encouraging children to renounce
gangs. Parents and school can help discourage gang entry by
presenting adolescents with more attractive options. Former
gang members should be welcomed back into society without
recourse. Additionally, Government should crackdown more
effectively on gang related crimes. With work, gang violence
will become obsolete.
