NSC on Diaspora,
the End of a Bright Beginning

 by Rey Adel

The Philippine government is on the verge of bringing NSC back to life. Recent rumors heard over this side of the world state that the Department of Trade and Industry had imposed a September 31 deadline on the bids from three prospective buyers. If and when the deadline is not met, the Philippine government will takeover the operations of the beleaguered company.

The month of May marked the start of the rotation scheme of NSC personnel. Some new personnel were assigned in several areas of the plant, i.e. tendering functions, mill inspection activities. A new group was created to do housekeeping and other activities which were necessary in the upkeep of peripheral areas within the plant premises.

  News

EMT Batch 11 have searched for greener pastures outside NSC. Many have contemplated on moving or working abroad. A few die-hard [or hard-headed ones], however, still remain loyal with NSC.

Vince even asked: "Would NSC give us our retrenchment and separation pay during our lifetime?" and answered it with "Only in our dreams!"

  Eleven Survey [After Retrenchment]

Only seven [7] batchmates are still connected with NSC: Rex, Alags, Vince, Bobot V, Boy E, Jinggot and Art.

Almost all who remained in Iligan City are working two jobs just to exist.

Majority of batchmates are presently working at Steel Corp, Bacnotan Steel, or del Monte [CdO] .

Two are working for their immigration papers to the USA/Canada and Australia.

Still, some of our batchmates are productive: two batchmates' wives are infanticipating.
