Malcolm has now taken part in the Glasshouse Mountains Trail Run for two consecutive years. There are five distances: a 100 mile, a 50mile, a 55km, a 27km and a 12km. Malcolm has won the 55km both years. Last year 22 people took part in the 55km. This trail run is really something for the tougher people among us: physically as well as mentally. It's normally quite a hot day, around the 30degC mark. You run from water point to water point and the groups soon spread, people running on their own most of the time, only seeing other people at the water points or passing the occasional other runner. At the beginning of the race runners undergo a medical test and have themselves weighed and their blood pressure and pulse taken. For the 55km this is measured twice again during the race. Some of the race is on 4x4 tracks and on bush paths. At the end of the run Malcolm talks quite a bit, but he normally just keeps repeating the same sentence: it was tough, it was really tough!
The run has a very special 'local' atmosphere to it. It is organised by the locals of the town and all runners get together on the Friday night for the final arrangements to be made and for a meal together. Competitors receive a souvenir and prizes are won. You can visit The Glasshouse Mountains Trail Run. web site: ^ Top Last updated: 29-May-01 |
