MALCOLM

Click to view enlargement I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on June 14th. The photo, I have been told, was taken of me when I was 6 months old. It looks as if I have since changed somewhat. I have more hair now and am maybe not as chunky-looking.

My parents have a farm, Earlston Mains, 32 miles south of Edinburgh. It was here that I was brought up with my two younger brothers. Duncan and Roy are two and three years younger than me, respectively.

ELMARI

Click to view enlargement I was born in Vanderbijlpark in South Africa on the 22nd of September. My dad started his career as chemical engineer at the ISCOR (Iron and Steel CORporation) there. The photo was taken of me and my mum when I was baptised. Wasn't I a beautiful baby?! My dad always says though, it's not the outside that matters, but the inside!

Petra, my sister was born 18 months after me. I don't remember anything about this. However, some memories of Vanderbiljpark was how we made whips from some of the branches of the tree that stood in the front garden. I also remember my parents' very purple bed spread and a "Liewe Heksie" fancy dress birthday party we once went to(Liewe Heksie was a favourite children's series on television). I remember once when Ouma and Oupa (Granny and Grandad) came to visit, we all went for a walk at a dam. I wore a T-shirt with patterns that always looked like Marie biscuits to me (Marie biscuits are plain round milk biscuits that you get in South Africa)! When we moved to the Hartbeespoortdam Petra fitted in the clock's box in the back of the volla (VW Beatle). I was 4 years old then.
