Radical Sports
Hiking, Hang Gliding, Skating and
Surfing were the ones chosen as themes to compose the Brazil's ordinary stamps that
focuses the Radical Sports issued on 1st June, 2000.. In spite of involving some risks, the practice
of Radical Sports, always in great contact with the nature, provides a purification of the
psychological state and the willingness to overthrow one's own limits. Since the remotest
ages, man has envied the flight of birds and identified it with freedom. With his feed on
the ground, he dreamed to launch himself into the open space. In the process he launched
himself into the space blown by the wind, held by the air, in complete harmony with
nature. In 1948, Francis Melvin Rogallo applied for the patent of a hang glider. It was
the beginning of the history of a sport which gathered all those who had the dream of
giving wings to freedom. The stamp design utilized the technique of photocomposition with
computer graphics.
